I feel that towards anyone who supports these too.

Yes. It's Chick-fil-A all over again.

Their cries of martyrdom have brought out the people supporting them "on principle" (i.e. "to show passive-aggressive support for the suppression of equal rights").

The claim that their profits are up shows there are plenty of small-minded people with nothing better to do than put their energy and money into stoking the fires of hatred while hardening their arteries with cholesterol-filled crap.

Apparently, Asher's secret ingredient is self-righteous anger.

Slightly off topic but relative as it's another example of Northern Ireland's backwards politics. I was in a meeting in work yesterday and we were going through things to do in the upcoming months. One of the suggestions was to donate blood which the nurses all liked and thought was a great thing to do. Every month they do something charitable and as team building. A few of us said that we couldn't really give blood and the nurse in charge (who's from Romania) asked us why we couldn't give blood, if it was for medical reasons? We explained that no, it wasn't for medical reasons but that in N.I gay men aren't allowed to give blood. That it's illegal to do so here, even though it isn't in the rest of the UK. She was astounded, and honestly furious. She could not understand it at all. And actually got quite upset about it. She said it's a selfish law that potentially endangers the lives of people who need blood. Which of course it is...

WTF...?

How, why??

Please tell me they give a reason for this?
I guess it's some sort of hangover from the 1980s and the AIDS epidemic but I'm not entirely sure. I just know there is a blood ban and that other parties have been fighting it for years. I initially thought I couldn't give blood anyways because I am diabetic but the nurse explained that I would be fine to give blood being diabetic as it's more to do with plasma and wouldn't affect my blood glucose.

What a set of backward ill-advised idiots they have. Honestly, I keep thinking we are making progress in life and then I read something that sends me back in time.

In the rest of the UK, the lifetime ban on MSM has been lifted in favour of one that will only allow men to donate if they haven't had sex with a man in over 12 months. Which is still discriminatory - especially considering all blood donations are screened for HIV before being used anyway.

Oh I wasn't aware of that. That's strange isn't it? I mean if the blood is screened for HIV anyways what's the problem?

Oh, it started out as panic based on misinformation. Now it's just homophobia. It's in place to keep the riff raff out.

But you are quite correct in saying that NI's policy is even more backwards. Which, of course, is steeped in even more ingrained homophobia.

Unbelievable!!

Isn't it just?

Some European countries have a much healthier attitude. Blood may be refused if people have engaged in an activity that's classed as higher risk, which is fine. But it's just plain wrong to assume that one's sexual orientation immediately places one into that category.

Totally and it shocks me to think here in the UK this still goes on. I just don't get it, I thought they were doctors of science and not half-baked idiots. Yet you do have it spot on with the homophobia.

What makes this incredibly hard to understand is that they screen the blood anyway.

Can you believe these bigots are still pressing on with their vendetta by pursuing it to the supreme court.

Apparently it is likely to be 2019 before the supreme justices' verdict. During which time the two will no doubt continue to enjoy their moment in the spotlight, spending untold tens of thousands of Christian Institute money while whining that they are the ones being persecuted.

The hide on these self-righteous eejits is just incredible. The overwhelming majority of businesses operate within the law. Not only do they feel they don't have to, but they also want the legal system to join them in their persecution.

Why can't they just shut up, go away and count their blessings they are still allowed to run their nasty little business.

This whole thing has become nothing but a "work". Both sides are martyrs and some very casual exchange turned into a civil war.. Now both sides get to collect money from groups, sell stories etc.

If the baker couple was Muslim there would be no story.

Actually, that's true.

The bakers should be allowed to not make the cake with the proviso that they register as closeted homosexuals with Department of Defense, their pictures as asexual predators circulated by the FBI at every post office around the country.

Give 'em a choice.

Ah, the old (All homophobic people are closet cases, cliché)

I am sure this scenario is within reason.
