Willie has been a member since early 2002

Willie not only took part in our Soap Chat Big Brother game as Aris Totallos, but he also went on to win.

Winner Aris....jpg

Willie also helped boost our first Bachelor game, by taking on the role of The Bachelor and picking his winner Stan played by @Frosty Lashes

Not content with simply playing The Bachelor, in our followup game, he played the role of Jean-Crème De La Crème in a bid to win Emelee's heart.

Like a few of our members, anyone who is anyone knows who Willie is. But that’s just name, his posting style, his humour, his love for a good drama, his love for a good movie and not forgetting he diverse musical taste. I suddenly feel like I really know who Willie is, but surely that’s just scratching the surface.

What else do we know about Willie and what don’t we know?

Please take this week to ask as many, or little questions you have for Willie including any follow-up questions that might arise during the week.

Enjoy your week in the spotlight.

I will start with one question that intrigues me with everyone.
Willie, if you were to take part in Mastermind (a quiz show) what would be your specialist subject?

Dear Willie,

Tell me this and tell me no more: What is your favourite soap opera that you’ve never seen?

A Place to Call Home
Empire
Other (please state)

Now please explain, in 10,000,000 words or less, why. For the love of Pete, why??

Hi @Noellie Oleson, I hope you enjoying being in the spotlight. A few questions:
  1. Of all the TV characters you could have chosen as your forum name, why did you pick Willie Oleson?
  2. Have you used any other names on this forum?
  3. If you were only able to post on one thread on this site, which one would you chose?

I'll try to be as deep as possible otherwise we may as well stop scratching.

I've played a football celebrity in the SC Bachelor Game and not so long ago I've rewatched Footballers' Wives + Extra Time so I'd definitely pick football.
Enjoy your week in the spotlight
Lovely, thank you!

1) What is your occupation?
As soon as I get home I develop an occupation-amnesia. Tomorrow morning when I go back I'll remember everything.
2) What is your favourite ever soap opera and why?
My favourite/most important soap is always the soap I'm currently watching, in this case it's Dal Capricorn Crude.
3) How many different languages can you speak?
Just one, and over the years I've become terribly sloppy with my speech. I really need to do something about it.
4) Do you post on any other forums outside of tellytalk.net?
Of course, I need a place to gossip about you guys.
Haha.

A few years ago (or is it decades already?) I also posted on the Almighty and Klone Records forums. Not about soaps, of course.

What is your favourite soap opera that you’ve never seen?
There are still a few titles in my Most Wanted Soap List (Executive Suite, Bare Essence, Homefront, The Sullivans) but since I've never seen them I don't know which one of these would be my favourite.

Then it has to be something I already know (sort of) - my first choice would be Home & Away. Even more so because Prime UK won't let me watch it. Don't they realize how much I need my stories?
Brutal!

Of all the TV characters you could have chosen as your forum name, why did you pick Willie Oleson?
There were already so many names based on soap characters and I wanted something obscure from a well known tv series.
As a matter of fact, a few years later when I mentioned "Walnut Grove" in a post, administrator "Pamela" said: oh you're that Willie Oleson! I liked that.

It's possible that I had considered "Nellie" too but didn't like the association. Willie wasn't the most scrupulous character but he wasn't a monster.
Back in elementary school I was often sent out of class because I talked or laughed too much, maybe that's why I "understand" this character.
Have you used any other names on this forum?
The same name, all in lower case - pretending to be humble.
If you were only able to post on one thread on this site, which one would you chose?
I wouldn't want to miss out on the Knots Landing World Cup thread (if there was one) :D
No, that's not fair.
Let's see...surely I'd need the Rant Thread to complain about my ordeal?

Hope you enjoying being in the spotlight?
I'm feeling a little outshone by all the Christmas trees.
What made you move from Canada to Europe (Germany) I sure would have stayed in Canada?
Yes that was a big mistake, but they won't take me back
Which Dallas character do you admire?
Mark Graison, you never knew when he was dead or alive. So clever!

Harriet Oleson was my favourite character on that show. I found the Ingalls way too saccharine and self-righteous. whereas Harriet was both the baddie and the comedy character and so was much more interesting.

I had planned to do a Knots Landing World Cup this year but got distracted by Covid-19. I always thought it would be an interesting contest because Knots was so much more of an ensemble show than Dallas or Falcon Crest, which both had an obvious principle character, so the result would be quite hard to predict.

Thanks for answering my questions @Noellie Oleson, I have a few more for you today:

Who is the most famous person you have met and did they live up to your expectations?
If you were organising the dinner party from hell and had to pick the 5 most annoying celebrities to be there, who would you choose?
If you could meet any famous person in the world who would you pick and what questions would you like to ask them?

Snarky Oracle!

Be careful who and what you name -- my aunt named her youngest daughter Laura after Laura Ingalls Wilder (because of the books, not the TV series) and she wound up, by total coincidence, moving to a different Walnut Grove as an adult, for many years.

Back in elementary school I was often sent out of class because I talked or laughed too much

Oh, me, too. Constantly.

Why did you leave Canada?
