Ellie always had what I call "convenient morality." She was high and mighty about the moral behavior of everyone except her family - and even then, only when their bad behavior directly affected HER.

Was she accepting of infidelity? Yes. JR cheated on Sue Ellen repeatedly and everyone knew it. The set up of the Winds of War in the very beginning was a revenge plot against JR because of his cheating. Ellie only got onto JR about how he treated his wife when Sue Ellen's drinking became an annoyance and embarrassment to HER.

She counseled Jenna to overlook Ray's cheating. She accepted Jock's bastard son because she had no choice and didn't want a scandal.

But as soon as she thought Jock and Clayton were cheating with Julie and Laurel respectively, she got all high and mighty.

So Ellie accepted infidelity in the same way she accepted everything else - it's a-ok as long as it doesn't affect HER.
Fully Agree. Miss Ellie was self-centered and hypocritical. All was well with other people's misfortunes, as long as she could drink coffee in
her embarrassingly frumpy wardrobe and lecture others while she lived a life of wealth and privilege.

Just nod along like an obedient wife, you mean

My point is that when there is a disagreement, two people discuss it like adults, make their thoughts and intentions known.
Bobby shouldn't have to sacrifice a dream and opportunity for a woman's whiny self-centered, hypocrisy,
especially one who never earned an entrepreneurial dime. As JR pointed out, she had a knack
foe accumulating unearned income.

The solution is not to appear in court opposing her husband, leaving him for something he did not do,
cozy to another man and keep company with him in the south of France (JR was right about that),
and inflame a volatile situation

Some of you must know that JR was not the easiest person to love. Sue Ellen did everything in her power to make JR love her and it wasn’t good enough. And let’s put it on the table. JR was not a nice man. The only man he respected and feared, Jock, JR had no problems lying right to his face when Jock asked him about the Asian oil leases.

Miss Ellie did love JR, but she might not have liked him all that much. I think it’s safe to say that she wasn’t the only one.
You make some good points.
I would say that JR didn't become the person we saw by being raised in a vacuum.
Miss Ellie needs to take some responsibility for (Emotionally?) abandoning him, and not
discussing his actions with Jock and younger JR, during which she presumably enabled his behaviors

Jock and Ellie were horrendous parents. It's not bad luck that produced an alcoholic and a sociopath for sons. Bobby was messed up too, but given how he was raised, it's a miracle how well he turned out.

They spoiled Bobby a bit. They were good parents to him for the most part. They messed up in different ways with J.R., and Jock with Gary. Must have been hard for toddler Gary to have just his kind mother around and then in comes his harsh father. J.R. the exact opposite, as a child J.R. had bonded with his father on the oilfields before the US entered WW2 and pined for his father's return.

Gary had some different interests and saw things different as well. He was the only one, when they were out hunting, concerned about the animals, their feelings and them being killed. The other males saw this as "weakness". Is it really? When Bobby was annoyed at J.R. for Gary leaving towards the end of the Reunion episodes in Season 2 DVD, Bobby mentioned that he liked having Gary around and liked hearing his different perspective on things.
