Donald Trump - Reminiscent Of JR Considering Running For President?

I see a lot of similarities. We have a wealthy man with nonpolitical experience running for President right now, there is controversy over how he made his fortune, he has been accused of being a womanizer and a misogynist, but despite the negative traits, he is considered to have a good chance to win, largely because he is man who has a lot of charisma, so much that he gets away with saying things others wouldn't, and people like that he has demonstrated the ability to handle money very well and end up with a surplus instead of a owing trillions of dollars like our last few Presidents did.

Trump realizes that since we owe 20 trillion dollars, we are living in a bubble, and if serious measures aren't taken to work on paying back the amount we owe, that bubble could pop which would lead to the worst depression we've ever had. If other countries decide our currency is worthless or worth very little, the result would dwarf any depression our country has ever had. A businessman, unlike the government, can't just print more money. A businessman, a successful one worth billions of dollars, knows revenues must exceed expenses - there has to be a bottom line. Carer politicians aren't concerned with the bottom line; they only know how to spend and do.

I'll keep out of the politics of this but many of you may remember when Donald Trump and JR Ewing/Mr. Hagman met in 2006. I can't remember the event. Mr.Trump shining JR's boots.

Yes, there are plenty of similarities. Despite the fact that both of them are ruthless capitalists, they are also mavericks that the big business class as a whole do NOT trust to represents their overall interests. Donald and J.R. are also both keen on populism to win support. Remember J.R. with all the cheap gas in the Battle for Ewing Oil and acting as a man of the people? Donald uses similar rhetoric to win support. They also see no problem in doing things like doing trade with Cuba if they can make a profit for themselves, despite it being strictly against US law. With Donald, he's eager to do business with Vladimir Putin, again annoying the powers that be in the US imperialist establishment.

I'll also stay well away from the politics currently occurring in the U.S.A. I wouldn't have minded seeing some politics in the original series run, perhaps J.R., visiting Washington on occasion drumming up business or blackmailing some senator or congressman to increase his wealth. Back in Dallas sometimes the family dramas would become repetitive. I enjoyed that story when J.R. opened up his own gas stations to offer cheap fuel and his involvement with the media.

Just what happened to JR's gas stations, anyway? I know that a lot of that political stuff in season 6 (dvd) helped JR get into Cuba, but I couldn't help wondering what would have happened if JR had actually tried to get some kind of political position like Donna seemed to think he would. It would have at least been more entertaining than that lame Senator Bobby stuff.

Remember Bobby and Donna going crazy in trying to get the authorities to take away J.R.'s variance? They hated that he was offering all this cheap gas to the public, portraying himself as a man of the people and making a lot of profit for himself in the Battle for Ewing Oil against Bobby.

J.R. is not really a diplomat in a suit. That would be way outside his comfort zone. I think that's what people like about J.R., in the sense that what you see is what you get. J.R. might be everything you hate, but he is honest about it. Bobby is sometimes as bad as J.R. I actually thought Bobby was worse in the Battle for Ewing Oil, yet he gets on a moral highground.

That was funny all the cars waiting to fill up...I need to dig out my sets and start watching them. Another time Cliff ordered Chinese and the delivery guy said if JR was running he had his vote and cliff got this funny look and the music played like what an idea.

OMG! Those photos of Larry/JR and Trump are just priceless! :rolling:
I had never seen them before, thanks for bringing them to our attention @Michelle Stevens

Then as for the original question, come to think of it there does seem to be some resemblance between JR & Trump!
I mean they are both corrupt businessmen who thrive on power and money. They have also both replaced their first wives with younger trophy wives.

I'll just quote Cliff Barnes who said, "So much for the intelligence of the American voter." I'm not a fan of either candidate. Our government is in a sorry state for all the corruption and division. If our media were even remotely truthful, we wouldn't all be so misinformed or uninformed and just plain fed up.

Oh i think ol' JR would be proud of Trump

I still cant get over the fact that in a country the size of USA, that Trump and the also unlikeable (personally cant stomach her and her voice) Clinton are the best they can come up with
Thats scary lol

Believe me BF, neither can we. Sadly, the outstanding qualified candidate that should have been elected president last time around was eaten alive by his own party and the media, and now instead of having a great president to reelect, we're stuck with voting for the lesser of two evils.

Only Unleaded? Where was the Premium fuel? Surely we weren't THAT bad off then!?

In the 1980's one (in the United States) could still buy leaded "regular" fuel. Vehicles built before 1975 didn't have catalytic converter and used leaded fuel. From what I remember from that time one only had, Regular (leaded), Unleaded, and Diesel fuels at a typical gas station. Regular fuel was the least expensive and diesel was the most expensive. I don't remember "Premium" fuel coming until the early-1990's.

So if regular was the least expensive back then, you would think that JR would be offering that since he was trying to make it look like he cared about how people struggled with the price of gas!

I would have liked to see Bobby continue being bad, but of course he had to go back to his self-righteous whining. Sigh.
