Disney has been around since 1923, and times have a-changed, so it's not entirely surprising that certain moments in Disney movies would be 'not okay' when looked at from a modern perspective.

A little bit rapey, a little bit racist, an unexpected flash of boob – here are the moments in Disney movies that definitely wouldn't make the cut were they made now.

1. Non-consensual snogging of unconscious women in Snow White and Sleeping Beauty

Yes we know these films are based on fairy tales, but in this day and age, we're not sure it's an especially appropriate response to encountering a woman who a) you suspect to be dead, b) has been imprisoned in a castle asleep for 100 years, and c) you've not even spoken a word to.

That is not consent, not even if you're a prince. At least there are no tongues involved.

2. The Native Americans in Peter Pan

'What makes the Red man Red?' ask the Lost Boys of a group of Native Americans, who proceed to sing a song about it featuring caricatured dance moves and nonsense language, implying their indigenous language is gibberish.

This scene often gets cut when it appears on TV. The live action Pan tried to avoid the problem by making Tiger Lily's heritage ambiguous and casting Rooney Mara, and in the process opened themselves up to accusations of whitewashing.

You might say "You can't win!", but you can. It's easy: by not being racist towards Native Americans, and by not sweeping them under the carpet either.

3. The Crows in Dumbo

The flock of crows who initially tease Dumbo, but eventually help him, have faced accusations of being offensive racial stereotyping of African Americans, not helped by the fact that the head crow is literally called Jim Crow (referring to the Jim Crow laws which enforced racial segregation).

People have noted that all but Jim are voiced by African-American actors and that after the initial meanness, they're actually quite sympathetic characters, but nonetheless, in 2017 they just wouldn't do it.

4. Pinocchio Smoking a Cigar

When visiting den of iniquity Pleasure Island, living puppet Pinocchio has a go on a great big fat cigar (before being partially turned into a donkey). While this was held up as an example of Pinocchio being naughty, there's still no way in hell you'd have a scene with a child protagonist puffing away in a kids' film these days.

Other characters who enjoyed a puff in old Disney are Cruella deVil and Pongo's owner in 101 Dalmatians, the Caterpillar in Alice in Wonderland and Hook in Peter Pan.

5. Shun Gon in The Aristocats

He's playing the piano with chopsticks, has large buck teeth and sings about fortune cookies in an "Asian" accent. Not okay.

6. Mushu in Mulan

The comedy sidekick dragon in Mulan is called Mushu – after Moo-shu pork, a standard dish in American Chinese restaurants. It's like calling a funny Indian character Vindaloo or a German one Schnitzel.

7. The whole of Song of the South

So notoriously not okay is this musical based on the Uncle Remus stories that there isn't actually a US home-entertainment release at all. Set soon after the American Civil War, the film has been criticised for its portrayal of African-Americans, including the use of black songs and vernacular.

Indeed, Richard B Dier in The Afro-American called the film"as vicious a piece of propaganda for white supremacy as Hollywood ever produced".

8. Tits in Fantasia

Scary tits at that. They belong to the harpies in the segment 'Night on Bald Mountain', which also features Satan and is generally unsettling all the way through. Perfect entertainment for kids.

The whole of Song of the South

I only just recently watch Song of The South for the first time and I don't think it's any worse than a film such as Gone With The Wind in how black characters are portrayed, in fact I think GWTW was worse in that respect but it is still revered as one of the greatest films ever. The actor that played the lead role of Uncle Remus in Song of The South was so good in it he should have been up for an Oscar for his performance. The film itself isn't a classic but it strange that it's viewed unfavourably these days when others are not.

It's a wonderful movie but the PC Police that wants to ban everything, alter history and made everything squeaky clean decided it should be banned, locked up and seen as the source of all evil.

Song of the South hasn't been banned, it is still available on VHS. Disney decided not to release it on DVD because the consider the film to be old fashioned and offensive but they never banned it.

i dunno why song of the south is considred Racist i love the film. Disney are just a bunch of dumbass's cause the film takes place during a time when slaves existed and there is no doubt that kids i'm sure hung around certain slaves that became family during their time there. from my understanding after they were freed they had no place to go so what did they do which is never talked about they stayed with the people they worked for cause they ended up being family to them.

song of the south is over 70 years old and is made during a different time of hollywood. the fact that people think it's racist is absurd, watch some of the willie best movies

look him up and you will see just how some blacks were portrayed back than in films. yes misser and noo sir. that's not how black people talk today and is not a way they should talk either. that's how blacks were written into movies back than most of the time and nobody says shit about that. yet you have a little boy and girl who hang out with an old man who tells them stories about brier rabbit and how racist is that? Gone with the wind i dunno if you've heard this is not a racist film at not that long ago was shown at i forget what cinema and this place has been showing it for the past 10 years! now they are against for some reason the saying it's racist and my question is why did they wait 10 years?

the answer is this it's people with too much time on their hands. i'm not black so i may be wrong as i can only speak as someone who's white. i don't live with Racism like blacks do where they see it everyday. and have to live with it even in today's age. plus it don't help with a racist president either. song of the south is a great film and should be on blu-ray in the states the reason they won't release it is simple. people are just to damn touchy these days and too sue happy and get offended way to damn easy. how is it okay for them to put it on VHS as recent as (1986) and the cinema as well for a re-release yet now they pretty much ban it from the states are are ashamed of it, yet they have the ride that is based off the film at disney world and prolly disneyland as well.

it makes no sense to me at all. it's just a film and i've never met anyone in my life who was offended by it weather they were black or white or any color for that matter. it's been awhile since i last watched it to be fair. but people slaves are part of our history a real bad part of it may i add and a part that should NEVER have been around at all. but ignoring it in films
because they are honest on what time it takes place in is not even acknowledging the fact that slaves are part of a bad part of our history.

that's and i may be wrong on this but hear me out. the film Shindler's list or however it's spelled? is a brilliant film and i have it blu-ray it's about the holocaust ain't it? it's also been awhile since i last saw it and the concentration camps and so forth and WW2. a brilliant film that i think even survivors said it was done true to what they went through for those who were able to watch it. i would not be surprised at all if there were a big amount that refuse to watch that. but if that film was stopped from being released cause it happend when that film isn't racist to blacks. that film you can buy it anywhere pretty much and you don't see jewish people say i'm offended that movie exists cause jewish people were killed by the thousands back than. just cause they were juewish. it's wrong they were and really messed up but the film isn't hiding the fact that it happend yet that one can be a hard watch to those who went through it and song of the south is a kids film.

Warner Bros. made a ton of racist cartoons back in the day and on the sets that were released what 10 years ago or so they put a thing at the start of each cartoon from my understanding it was i think Whoopie Goldberg saying folks these cartoons are a product of their time and not what warner bros. believe they are still on there. and speaking of this list. why is Dumbo not also done the same way song of the south. those crows i agree is wrong they put them in there. that film is more racist than Song of the south cause it's straight in your face. and it's i think easier to spot and more offensive than song of the south why is dumbo not hard to find as well?

or any of these movies on this list for that matter. why pick out just one film? if the film was made 10 years later i think it wouldn't be banned cause they prolly would have done it a bit different but it's a product of it's time. i dunno how right or wrong i am cause some folks may disagree with me and that's okay you have your right to feel that way just like i have the right to feel the way i do as well. but i just find it funny as hell they pick only one film out of all their films and shorts that they refuse to put out on Laserdisc. dvd or blu-ray in america. yet in Japan and other countries they have no issues with i don't get that. but than that's just me i guess

Angela you forgot to mention that already in schools they are not teaching stuff in schools we were taught as kids cause they refuse to accept this happened. it's not always the teachers fault but more so the schools cause they are afraid that people won't like america's past which has had a LOT of really shitty things happen in it. the birth of the nation the (1915) version is the most racist film of all time and it was funded and made by the kKK. i dunno if it's director was part of the clan or not but back than it is possible. and that film is considered one of the best films ever made. you figure that one out cause i can't. we can say stuff in that film isn't real cause it's a film but though i have not seen that one stuff like that no doubt did happen i'm sure. that was in that film i mean and that is just messed up. but as the years go by they are refusing to teach kids certain things about history cause they are afraid people wont' like it uh so it happened you don't have to like it at all.

another thing they stopped doing is teach kids cursive writing uh why? they teach them how to sign their names but not to write in it why? i had to go through getting taught that and though i sign my name pretty good and some letters i can write well my cursive if i wanted to write a letter simply awful. i never got the hang of it to be honest.

it's scary that 100 years from now i wonder if they will even tell kids uh kids slavery doesn't exist hence it never happened. even though we all know it did happen. i will be long dead by than and so will everyone on this planet for that matter. but i would not be surprised if i am right sorry for the rant i just think that banning a harmless film is just plain stupid. and i am calling it banning cause yes it's legal to buy it and own it. but disney is more or less ignoring the fact it was ever even made which is really stupid as it's one of their best films in their entire catalog. my only question is if they are doing that why are they putting Zip-dee -doo-dah on various releases? it's from that film and yes that is a harmless song but still it's from that film and that's them saying it exists that's being a bit what do you call it? the word escapes me at the moment but you get what i am trying to say i'm sure.

oh you forgot that in Pinocchio the word jack ass is used countless times. yes it's about a donkey but it's still said in a cartoon why is that not an issue?
