honestly i had thought he had died already now if you want to see a really really bad film with him in it and it's called It's Not the Size that Counts (1974) and yes that is exactly what that film is about. i have that on VHS and it's painfully bad

My Barry Humphries story.

About 5 years ago I went to the opticians for my regular eye test. While sitting waiting for my appointment, a woman came through the door and in a very loud voice said "Mr Humphries is here for his 11.30 hearing appointment". About a minute later a man with floppy dark hair shuffled in, using a walking stick, moving like a old man. It was Barry Humphries. I thought typical showbiz, can't even go to Specsavers without being announced like he was on stage and wanting to draw attention to himself.

He did seem to have difficulty hearing anything he was being told. I also thought he looked particularly frail like he didn't have long to go but I was wrong as he continued to perform his show in the following years.

Recently I was seeking out some k.d. lang stuff, and stumbled on this terrific interview with Dame Edna. It's so warm and funny.

I don't think there's anything that two intelligent women cannot discuss. There's no taboo. I make no apologies for the words. For the terminology. Perhaps the coarse terminology that I'm going to use now... When did you first know you were Canadian?

I'm afraid many Aussie's will awaken this morning to this sad news and cast a shadow over their day. I on the other hand have been watching some classic Dame Edna and Sir Les Patterson short videos on YouTube. Barry was a comic genius.

To his wife, children and extended family I wish to offer my deepest condolences. While you grieve for the man, husband, father and grandfather, take it to heart others from around the world are sharing that grief with you.

I'd imagine Dame Edna would chuckle knowing she will be trending on YouTube today.

I acknowledge the passing of another icon and to that extent I'm saddened, but I won't pretend that I was a fan.
Les Patterson was intended to be disgusting and succeeded very well.
