Channel 4 privatisation to go ahead

The government has decided to go ahead with plans to privatise Channel 4.
A source said ministers believed public ownership was holding the broadcaster back "in the face of a rapidly changing media landscape".
Plans for the sale, on which there has been a public consultation, will be included in May's Queen's Speech.
But Channel 4 called it "disappointing" that ministers had made their decision despite "significant public interest concerns" over privatisation.

The BBC is told the money made from selling the broadcaster will be reinvested in the TV industry.

The Government threatened this a few years back when they didn't like Channel 4 being so left wing, revenge for the whole ice sculpture when Boris didn't turn up for a debate.

They denied it at the time yet here we are.

The privatisation was a vindictive pet project of Mad Nads (Nadine Dorries). Now she is no longer in the cabinet, I hope the plan will be shelved although this lot seem hell bent on right wing dogma rather than what is best for the broadcast industry.

It's still possible that Channel 4 may get a reprieve as the new culture secretary is reviewing the case for whether the privatisation should go ahead.

As far as I'm aware the sale of Channel Four is not going ahead.

However I am still no fan of the way the Conservative Government is screwing over the BBC!

It looks as though the proposed privatisation plans are now dead in the water.

Culture secretary, Michelle Donelan has apparently advised against the privatisation of Channel 4 in a letter to the prime minister that has been leaked online.
