Classic Film Duos

You know I have to put classic in front of everything because that's where my heart is at.

For this thread, I'm talking about those Old Hollywood duos that made movies or shorts together, and had some kind of team that spanned multiple outings and years together. Of course, we can discuss Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis (who already have their own thread going), Bud Abbott and Lou Costello, Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy, and others. One duo that often intrigues me is the Thelma Todd and ZaSu Pitts pairing in the early-'30s, which was basically Hal Roach's attempt to have a female Laurel and Hardy on his roster. I currently have the complete Pitts and Todd collection in my Amazon shopping cart.

Anyone like these Old Hollywood duos? Any favorites?​

ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET FRANKENSTEIN ranks very high among my favorite films; loved it as a kid, love it as an adult, and watch it every Halloween. I also like some of A&C's other horror-comedies like HOLD THAT GHOST and A&C MEET THE KILLER (BORIS KARLOFF). All of that has less to do with A&C than my own love of comics in a spooky setting. It's an extinct form of comedy, last (semi well) practiced by Don Knotts in the 60s and no one since.

Beyond that, I have minor appreciation for A&C; I only find their schtick to be mildly amusing. Their slapstick was often done by obvious stunt doubles, and their overly rehearsed vaudevillian verbal routines are -- like Burns & Allen -- kind of exhausting.

I'll admit that the appeal of Laurel & Hardy is a mystery to me, and I like Dean Martin solo far more than paired with Jerry Lewis.

Less of an official duo than a frequent pairing, I like Hope & Crosby more than any of the others.

I would have to say Abbot and Costello are my all time favorite duo. I know some of it gets old as they did the same schtick over and over but I never get tired of Who’s on First? or 7 into 28 is 13 or the classic crap game skits. No one makes me laugh like those two.

Laurel & Hardy i also love i 1st saw them on the channel HA! which was a channel that later became The comedy Channel in (1990) and than a year later turned into Comedy Central. HA! used to show Stan and Ollie all the time and i was pissed off when they changed to the comedy channel cause they never showed them

Laurel and Hardy were great as well. They’re a close second for me after Abbott & Costello. I especially enjoy them in March of the Wooden Soldiers, one of my favorite movies.

i love their silent shorts but oddly enough i can't seem to get into their stuff when it hit the talkies. it's weird but i still love the guys their last film though it's a real piece of shit. have you looked into how Ollie died? he was told by his doctor to lose weight and he did he lost like 100 lbs i think it was? and he lost too much weight and it was to an unhealthy weight it really messed his system and threw it out of wack. i think had he not done that he would have lived a little bit longer and if you watch his early stuff he's pretty thin for him it wasn't until later he put the weight on.

i wish i could lose weight like him but not as fast and not as much of course.
