Comedian Richard Lewis has died

Stand-up comedian and actor Richard Lewis has died at 76.

I will remember him playing a version of himself on Curb Your Enthusiasm with his pal Larry David.

Larry made the sweetest comment regarding the passing of his friend:

I saw him at Caroline's in NYC eons ago. Let's just say he was on automatic -- but I guess that happens. Even though I suppose he was under 40.

You couldn't understand a word he said, even though we were fairly close to the stage.

Allegedly, he was apolitical. But I remember him at the 1992 Golden Globes (no, I wasn't there), Lewis devoting much of his routine to mocking Oliver Stone's nominated "JFK" movie (while Stone, at a table in the back, nervously pretended to be reading his menu).

I saw Lewis a few times in the '80s on LETTERMAN. Sometimes his ranting was kind of amusing.

He had great hair, however, for years and years.

Very sad to hear this. I only recently rewatched a few episodes of Anything But Love, the 90s sitcom he made with Jamie Lee Curtis. I always found his mannerisms and unusual speech pattern very endearing.
