Coronation Street Could Jim McDonald and Alan McKenna have been similar to Phil-Grant?

Just thinking, I mean Jim McDonald was a security guard and obviously quit the job because of his volatile temper and nearly killing someone if a situation arisen again, and the fact that Alan McKenna was also an ex-copper, maybe both characters have found some sort of common middle ground?

It would be great if Coronation street could within their cast have Charles Lawson and Glenn Hugill full-time regulars, they could almost be like similar to Phil/Grant and/or Barry and Terry.

(I've made my views on EastEnders clear, Phil should've left in 1999/2000 when Grant did, as Phil's gone too far now and i'm surprised Steve McFadden has tolerated the BS the EastEnders writers gave in terms of stories to make his fictional character "Phil Mitchell" a total jerk since 2000+.)

maybe a female solicitor/lawyer could've ran rings around both Jim McDonald and Alan McKenna (an affair/pregnancy/paternity test for both Jim and Alan), some clever love triangle and ultimately i'd have been some sort of middle ground and not like Phil/Kathy/Sharon/Grant?
