Indeed, as we cut back we learn that Sharon has been there the entire time, apparently running the place and suffering in silence (or at least out of our earshot. She’s not one for keeping her moans to herself is Sharon). Shagging her boss seems to be a habit with her. After her fling with Jim Baines, she’s now reunited with former boss Victor Lee with whom she apparently has both history and - so it seems - a future. Or at least she did until Victor’s former sister-in-law showed up (I spent much of her first episode trying to work out whether she was or wasn’t Yootha Joyce. She wasn’t, but looks very similar).Sharon seems a bit sassier this time round, with a sharp line for almost every occasion. However, I can’t help hearing these lines and feeling that this time round she’s coming across as a cut-rate Vera Downend. Then my mind goes to annoyance that Jack Barton would sack Zeph Gladstone to replace her with what feels like a less interesting choice.Sharon is a Xrds rarity: a character I’ve found it very difficult to click with. I get irritated by the Fiona Thompson airs when she speaks, and I spend most of her screen-time trying to work out if she’s common doing posh (like Patricia Hamilton, where it’s actually written into the character) or a bit posh and trying to do working class (like Bo Beaumont) or is someone who’s improved themselves and gained airs (like David Jason or most of the older cast of Corrie whenever they give interviews).I hope we do click at some point, Sharon and I,  because it seems she’s here to stay for at least a lengthy stint. She’s now invited herself to move into Diane’s place, just as Jane is going off to the Sullivans for one of her extended stays. Every time Jane does this I worry I’ll never see her again, and if it is the case this time then I fear Sharon and I will never be OK.Diane herself is also off on one of her trips (to visit Nicky in America, I think). I dare say she deserves a break after the reveal that Diane is the sleepwalker who’s been slashing clothes and wrecking the flat. I’ll miss her, too. But I won’t miss watching Steve Cater unhinge his jaw as he moves in for a nose-gobbling kiss with her.As is clear, the pieces are moving like Billy-O at the moment. But some are moving in the right direction. Benny has shown up and found himself a job - albeit an apparently very temporary one - at the motel. Best of all, Doris Luke has returned and - after a job she was about to begin fell through - become a vegetable cook in the kitchen. The chemistry is great. She and Shughie chatter over one another. Bernard looks down on her for her lack of qualifications. And she’s put her foot in it by discussing Bernard with Helen, not knowing they were married. And she’s only been back for a handful of episodes. I’m looking forward to more!</blockquote>
