Dallas 3.0

Returning to a new Dallas continuation based on some other stuff I've written.

2013

Begins with the scene of JR talking to Bobby about his master piece.

2014

Shows action scene of the hostage and shoot out in Mexico where John Ross saves Emma.

John Ross walks into a room and hugs Tomas and says, "That was for my friend and your cousin Drew."

"Not like they're not gonna find a way out of jail time."

"I've gotta friend gonna make sure they don't leave that jail alive. Now we gotta handle Nicolas."

"Don't leave Elena out of this. She's the one that brought this down on everyone seeking revenge."

Looking sad John Ross says, "Unfortunately I can't leave her out if this. Then we finish up JR's masterpiece so I can get my life back."

They hug again.

Scenes of the Mexican cartel bring killed in Jail.

2015

John Ross looks at Elena's black, hardly able to tell its her. She stands, hunched over, dressed in prison orange in a small, sparse conference room without windows. He says, "What do you want me to say?"

She says nothing.

"You brought Nicholas into our lives so you could get revenge against my family for something my father did. Honestly, didn't you get what you deserve?"

Again she says nothing.

"Your actions nearly cost the life of my cousin and it did cost me my best friend, supposedly the man you love and your own brother, and for what? To get back at J.R. Ewing. I wasn't allowed to fight dirty for what my uncle was stealing for me, and he was stealing it, but you could make deals with thugs? I tried so hard to be good enough for you. I wanted to give you everything and I lied to you so you wouldn't think bad of me. And you didn't just leave me. You rubbed it in my face that you were back with Christopher."

She lowers her head.

John Ross takes a deep breath before he says, "You'll spend most of our son's childhood in here. Don't you think he deserves a mother who can be there for him?"

Still Elena sits silent.

"I know what you think about Pamela, but she's my wife. She'll be like a mother to him whether you like it or not. You might as well sign and make it for real, for him." His voice sounds almost on the verge of tears saying, "I'm sorry Elena. You were right about me. Everything about me, except you were the one person who could trust me. You were the only one that ever could. You know I'll take care of him. You know that." Tears well up in his eyes.

John Ross places his hand on her shoulder and says, "I've tried to take care of you too, paying for your lawyers, pulling strings to get you in here, so you'll be safe. I don't know what else to do. To say."

Elena lifts her head, but does not turn to look at him.

"I love her. I love Pamela. Never in my life, even with you, did I ever feel bad for hurting someone. I hated you for walking out on me. Part of me still does. But when I found out that I hurt Pamela, I hated myself. I never felt that before, like I was the one at fault. And I never felt like someone loved me, but I know Pamela loves me. Look at what happened to her when I hurt her. You of all people know I never felt like my mother and father loved me. Used me, but not loved me. And, how it hurt when my grandmother left to travel. Clayton. I felt like Clayton loved me. Then he died." Tears fall down his cheeks. "There isn't a shred of doubt in my mind that Pamela loves me. She tried to make me believe she was having an affair with someone, an Arab prince who happens to be gay. She nearly died trying to join me. I'm going to have to fight to prove to her that I'm good enough to be her husband, but I'll do it. I'll do what ever it takes to take care of her, like I wanted to take care of you."

John Ross finally sits on the chair at the table behind her. "I've shown her I'm strong and capable. I saw to it that Harris Ryland will never get out of prison and I risked my life to save Emma, to make things right. With those CIA contacts of Ryland's, I'm creating a paramilitary company, Branch Water. And, I helped Emma get better and she's off now training for the Olympics next year, putting her life back together. Her grandmother helped me take over Ryland Transport. Judith's running for U.S. Senate and I'll make sure she gets the job. Never hurts to have a friend in Washington. Ryland Transport gives me control of the independents in Texas. Just like J.R. wanted.

My Aunt Donna's a former Secretary of Energy. I went to see her and Margaret when everything fell apart. They encouraged me to start my own oil exploration business and work on leases like you and I worked on with Mrs. Henderson. So I did that too. They helped me buy the Ewing Oil name. Margaret's a very persuasive lobbyist; she can talk anyone into anything. I put Ewing Oil back together and its mine. An oil field services business just like the two of us talked about. I earned it just like my father wanted."

John Ross works with some riggers into the late hours of the night until a gusher of oil comes raining down on them. Everyone celebrates like ruckus cowboys.

John Ross continues to look at Elena's back, "So you see, my father's master piece finally came together after all. And those loans Carlos made to Uncle Bobby and my mom. Carlos used the money grandfather set up in a trust fund for me. Not only am I the largest shareholder in Cyberbyte, I called in the loans, took over Ewing Global and split it up."

So yes, when I have to be, I'm ruthless. You were right, but you were wrong about South Fork. Uncle Bobby gave grandma back the ranch when she returned from her travels and then when she died, she left it in his care, with me getting half at my father's death and the rest when Bobby passes away. So, I was right, it's always been mine. I was fighting for what belonged to me. I wasn't wrong. You and Christoper and Uncle Bobby, you were wrong. Anyway, Uncle Bobby and I made a deal. He gave me the house and together we donated the land to the Ewing Family Foundation. He agreed to turn over The South Fork Cattle Company to me as long as I agreed to not go after his or Gary's mineral rights.

I know what you think about Pamela, and how she used Chris. How she split the two of you up. By the way, I told Chris who she was before they got married, but he wouldn't believe me. They didn't believe me until all her lies came out and then suddenly we were meeting with her in her father's office building. I know what she's capable of. And, I know what she's done. We're alike, her and I.

I took apart Ewing Global, selling myself Ewing Energies and buying Barnes Global to give to Pamela to run. Everyone got a check. And yes, I own Christopher's technology. The two of you taught me one thing. Trust no one.

I want better for my son. I want him to grow up part of a family, with brothers and sisters he can trust, at South Fork with a mother and father. Uncle Bobby left to find Aunt Pam. He got a letter from my father and no ones seen him since. My mother left. She can't seem to bare the memories. Of course Chris won't speak to me. But it doesn't matter. I have all the family I need. I have my son. And I am going to win back Pamela. Please Elena. Please let him be part of our family and not make him live with the shame of this place."

A news broadcaster says, "In a story that has all of Dallas talking, the finial codicil to the will of the last of great oil barons, JR Ewing, has revealed long buried family secrets.

A year ago JR Ewing died leaving son, John Ross Ewing the third, the task to recreate Ewing Oil, the company founded by Ewing family patriarch Jock Ewing and later acquired by West Star, which itself has become part of CalcoHarwood. John Ross completed his task and then some. He purchased the name Ewing Oil from CalcoHarwood and has turned into a formidable oil field services business with subsidiaries such as Wentworth Tool and Die and Ewing Construction. Over the last year he also became the sole owner of Ewing Alternative Energies, Ewing Transport, The Ewing Farlow Refinery Company, the mercenary business Branch Water, the South Fork Cattle Company, and Lone Star Investments, which in turn is the single largest investor in Cyberbyte, The Barnes Publishing Group, and the CBA banking corporation, among a thousand other investments.

Because John Ross Ewing the third completed this task of recreating Ewing Oil he becomes the sole heir to JRE Enterprises which does nothing more than own twenty percent of CalcoHarwood. This is where the story gets interesting. John Ross Ewing announced he would split his inheritance with half brother Bo Ewing, despite his father's will. He also announced he would set up trust funds for his father's three illegitimate children and their families. None of the names of the three have been revealed.

Forbes estimates John Ross Ewing and his wife Pamela to be worth in excess of thirty-four billion dollars while Bo Ewing to be worth ten billion."

2020

John Ross sits by the pool at South Fork looking over a letter in the early hours of the morning. Lucy walks up from the cottage and says, "What a beautiful morning."

John Ross doesn't answer, distracted by the piece of paper in his hands.

"Everything OK," she asks?

Again no answer.

A housekeeper sits a breakfast plate in front of her. Lucy says, "Thank you Caroline." Giving up waiting for her cousin to answer she says, "I assume Pamela and Bo already left for work." Hearing no reply she final says, "John Ross?"

"Oh Lucy. I'm sorry. I ah . . ."

"An important letter I take it."

"Oh no. It's fine. Just thinking of something else. So you taking a break from jet-setting or we just a stop on your way someplace?"

"Very funny. No, I'll be around for a while, at least until the end of the week. It's September next week, which means four weeks of laughing at people obsess over the latest fashions."

"You find the strangest things to occupy your time."

"This coming from the man who births cows for a living."

"Pretty amazing thing actually."

"I bet it is. I'll return for the Oil Baron's Ball."

"How do you travel all over the world and still oversee the foundation?"

It's a big set up. Practically runs itself. Oh, I've got a DoA meeting later this week. Just in case you wonder what up with all the strange people in the house."

"I'm sure I'll recognize a great many of them."

"You sure you're alright? You seem a bit distracted."

"Sure. I'm fine."

A woman walks out of the back of South Fork with three boys, a five year old boy running ahead of her, a three year old toddler holding her hand while she carries the third, a one year old, in her arms. the young boy runs into Lucy's arms and she ask, "How are my best boys?" She kisses Jay on the forehead and says, "I've missed you." She then kisses his brother and says, "And you too Steven." Holding the two boys in her arms she asks, "And how is your little brother?"

Jay says, "Oh, Mitch just sleeps all the time."

She laughs and holds them tight.

John Ross says, "We've got a lot of work to do boys. But we get our work done on the fences we can return to building the tree house."

Jay and Steven jump up and down, cheering.

Lucy takes the baby. "No, that's OK. How about I stay here and spend sometime with Mitch?"

"Are you sure? I was just going to take him with me."

"I'm sure."

The nanny tells the boys to sit down for breakfast as Caroline brings it out

John Ross excuses himself, picking up the letter and heading into the house.

Sitting down at his study desk John Ross looks back over the letter. A knock comes at the door and John Ross says, "Enter."

In walks three men, the first about his age he calls Tomas and the next two a few years older. "Monday morning already Tomas says."

The one man says, "We're expecting the court to uphold Katherine Wentworth's will leaving her estate to Bobby, who's already turned it over to Chris."

"At least he's consistent with wanting his relatives declared dead without bodies or finding out what happened. So I'm assuming he's gearing up to buy more CalcoHarwood shares."

"I assume so. Just as he did with Cliff's money."

John Ross laughs. "He thinks he can get Ewing Alternative energy through CalcoHarwood, he's barking up the wrong tree, but he was always to dumb to know up from down. Though what he does know about engineering, well can't complain about that."

"Bo met with the DelSol Group about the bid on the Mexican deep water leases. They're on board. They'll put together the project and shop around for a refinery."

"Ewing Farlow can't handle it?"

"They're at max capacity and then some."

"Alright. Once the deals done, make sure me make good on his stock option of ten percent of Ewing Oil. My brother keeps this up, we'll be fifty fifty partners in no time. Where are we at with the split up of CalcoHarwood?"

"We'll have the plan to you in couple weeks. What we want to see is a three way split. Downstream with refineries and gas stations, looking to sell it Ewing Farlow refineries. Then up stream with exploration and shipping my working with Ewing Oil and Ewing Transport. It'll be a giant pure play in the oil and gas business. And free up a lot of cash for stockholders."

"And the third?"

"Chemicals. Search for a partner for a fifty fifty venture."

"And Chris's reaction?"

"Pissed. He's been been put together deals in the tar sands and with Marcaba that he'll loose control of and you'll gain the patents in the drilling tech not to mention the leases."

"Well that's just how business goes. If you can't hold on to what you've got, people'll come and take it from you. He taught me that lesson himself. And besides, he's the one said we're not family."

"Marcos DelSol is the one vote I'm not sure about. You've got his father's support, but Carlos isn't on the board and I'm not so sure you can trust Marcos."

John Ross looks at Tomas, "I don't like to leave anything thing to chance. Find something on him in case we need it. Or plant something if you can't find it."

"Consider it done."

"My concern is with assets of the Mendez-Ochoa drug cartel. I'm getting reports people are sniffing around."

"I'm going to assume Nicolas Treviño. Just as long as the bulk of his money remains frozen and he can't tie access to that money to me or Senator Brown, were good." John Ross then looks at Tomas again, "But I'd prefer it if you'd get rid of him."

"So would I."

An older woman, late sixties but still naturally beautiful, walks into Chris's office. His secretary says, "Ms. Wendell" attempting to slow her down.

The woman says, "Rumor has it you've lost control of the board."

"It's OK," Chris waved off his secretary. "Welcome Daphne. And who's rumor are you talking about?"

"Doesn't the matter. I keep my ear to the ground. You've got John Ross's two goons on the board for starters, you do the math with the rest of the state f them."

"That's unavoidable with as much stock as he and his brother are sitting on, thanks to my late, great uncle."

She leans over the table, "And that's why I brought you in here. The bulk of this company is still West Star, my father's company. JR ruined him and left him to rot in jail."

"I thought your daddy's books cooking scheme ruined him and allowed JR to gobble up shares on the cheap. And you brought me in to drag this company's drilling operations into the twenty-first century."

"I brought you in because you're the one person who wants to destroy John Ross Ewing as much as I do."

"Nothing worse than a woman scorned." Looking at her devilishly, "My goodness, to loose your virginity to a woman like you. What a lucky bastard."

Daphne straightens up and sits down in the chair across from Chris. "I want him out of this company."

"That's the plan. Why don't we go to my apartment for lunch?"

Daphne grins and him over. "What about this fiancé of yours."

"You heard about her."

"I hear about everything."

"Well let's say I find her useful at the moment."

"To split up your cousin and his wife. She realize you're using her."

"Of course not."

In the dark and heavily paneled Cattleman's Club, Pamela sits eating lunch alone when a man in his early fifties stands over her. "Mrs. Ewing?"

"She looks up from several pages of business reports and says, "Yes."

"I'm Henry Lee. My family and yours are old friends. I was hoping we could talk."

"I suppose so. Please sit."

Henry sits across from her. "I'm on the board of CalcoHarwood."

"I know who you are. Your father was Jordan Lee. Your on CalcoHarwood's board with a couple of my husbands associates, along with our cousin Chris and with Daphne Wendell, another old family."

"Thats right."

"I got a call from your father."

"You are valuable to CalcoHarwood. You got your Ph.D. in Economics from Chicago and teach at the University of Austin. You serve on the boards of the Jordan Lee Foundation and the Washington think tank The Bellingham Institute. So why would you take a call from my father?"

"Mr. Barnes is a wealthy man."

"Not that wealthy."

"Everybody know JR Ewing set him up. Even if he did shoot him, he was goated into it, just like JR goated him back into war with the Ewings. And he certainly wasn't wrong. John Ross has gobbled up independents. And we all know he's taken over control of CalcoHarwood, thanks to JR."

"So what is it you want from me, Dr. Lee?"

"Please Henry."

"Well Henry. You must have a point to all this."

"Your husband is stirring up a war."

"Is he?"

"Nono one is going to sit by and watch him take over CalcoHarwood anymore that we did when his father did it."

"I see. And you came to me why?"

"A courtesy to your father."

"I see. Well Dr. Lee you've relayed the message. Let me relay one to you. I have my husband's back. And if that means fighting you, Christopher, Daphne Wendell, and even my father, I indeed to approach the situation using any means necessary. My father is a deranged bastard. I suppose so was my father-in-law. But no one, and I do mean no one, will come between me and my husband."

Henry hands her some pictures. She looks them over. At first a bit taken back, somewhat of shock showing on her face, then she steadies herself, leans into him and says, "Your mistake, you and your associates, is to think I won't bite back Dr. Lee."

"I'm trying to help."

"You're trying to divide and conquer." Pamela leans back in her chair. "I've heard a lot of Daphne Wendell, considering you're here on behalf of CalcoHarwood, I can only presume she sent you. A rare example of someone being able to follow and even surpass their father in business at such a level and a woman at that in the oil industry. Interesting. So, if you didn't see a way in the front door, you come around the back."

"I would certainly never consider you the backdoor to the Ewing family."

"Send in one of the world's foremost economist to make a deal. Let me tell you what I know about CalcoHarwood. My husband and his brother each hold ten percent. With his sister out in California bring the second largest shareholder. Followed by your friend Daphne. Ms. Wendell and CalcoHarwood are considered predators, often looking for weak companies to gobble up, just as you are saying my husband does. This is business and you of all people understand that. But under her tenure she's embroiled the company in environmental disasters and fights to gobble up patents in battery technology to keep them from the automobile industry."

"Every company has its issues. Certainly running a conglomerate like Lone Star you're aware of that."

"Oil spills, shooting protestors. Stop me when you've heard enough."

"So you and the Ewing clan are morally opposed to any deal with CalcoHarwood?"

"Deal?"

"To acquire Ewing Oil and Ewing Alternative Energies, and significantly increase your family's share in CalcoHarwood."

"I didn't say that. Make a proposal."

He hands her a thick file folder.

"I'll look at. I'm certain you're interested in the Ewing Process for methane extraction and the oil leases my husband got from the Sultan of Manama for his entire country's oil reserves or the Arctic leases, selling oil to refineries other than those of CalcoHarwood. Ewing Transport's stranglehold on independents here in Texas. Or that big beautiful pipe line up north that sends all that Bakken oil east with every move companies like yours attempt to build one sending the oil south ending up blocked in Washington."

"Well you know what we're interested in."

Patting the folder she says, "What this will tell me is whether or not you underestimate my family."

"Are you talking about the Ewing's or the Barnes's?"

Pamela just smiles.

"I doubt we've understand estimated either," Henry says.

"We'll see. But let me tell you this, Henry, we've been in a lot of battles and we've been beaten before, but we've never lost. Understand the difference?"

"My cards in there. Let me know if you have any questions. I'll be Dallas for the rest of the week. Very nice to meet you."

Henry stands and leaves Pamela to consider him with an amused look on her face.

A long black limousine rolls down the straight South Fork driveway turning around behind the garage. The driver lets Pamela out of the back and says, "Have a good evening Mrs. Ewing."

"Thank you. You too. And tell, Faith I said hope she feels better."

"I will, thank you."

Pamela walks into the back of the house as the limousine pulls away.

Pamela walks into the living room (original house design) of South Fork through the back doors next to the fireplace. Noticing her husband and Lucy at the bar, she says, "Still here?"

Lucy hands her a drink. "Yes. At least until the end of the week." Taking her own drink she sits down in the wing chair by the fireplace.

Pamela kisses John Ross's cheek. "And how was your day?"

"Not bad. The boys and I worked on fences all morning. Then this afternoon we went to Hole-in-the-Wall for lunch with everyone. And, this afternoon we took a ride around the ranch."

"You know I don't like you taking them to that bar."

"No one's rip roaring drunk in the afternoon. Besides, they've got the best burgers in Texas."

"And red meat John Ross."

"It's South Fork beef." He laughs and kisses Pamela. "Besides they had chicken."

Lucy raises her glass. "Here's to South Fork beef and the good life."

"How long did you say you were staying?" Pamela asks.

"You'd like me to stay for ever, wouldn't you."

Bo walks in next from the same doors Pamela came through. "Lucy," he exclaim. "Still here. Awesome."

"Till the end of the week. Say how'd your apartment remodel turn out."

"The barn? Of pretty good. Your decorator friends a bit um."

"He hit on you?"

"Non stop."

"He hits on everybody. But he's got a thing for blondes. Don't take him serious. So the rec room, just the way you and John Ross envisioned it?"

"Yes. Perfect. We ended up turning the lower level into a gym with a basketball court and all. Looks great."

"Good. Glad to here it. And with you out there and me in the cottage when I'm here that gives Pamela's little family the house to themselves. We always did tend to live on top of each other."

Pamela says, "Well were just glad you made it for dinner."

"I walked into my office this afternoon to find Lucy sitting there waiting in the dark and then she gave me an hour lecture about family coming first all that sort of stuff."

"That sort of stuff?" Lucy says handing her glass back to John Ross like he's the butler. John Ross dutifully takes it and gets her another.

They all here the front door open Helen show in Chris and a beautiful young woman. Lucy walks up to them and hugs the woman, "My God. Amy Anderson. It's been ages. Don't tell me you're seeing my cousin now are you?"

Pamela whispers to John Ross, "Henry Lee stopped in to see me. Apparently you took Amy to a hotel."

"Did I?"

"What she say when you did?"

"Chris asked her to marry him."

Just then Lucy makes the announcement that they're engaged, making a big fuss over it.

"Just like you said they're watch you. Tried to make it look like the two of you were having an affair. You were awful handsy in those pictures."

"I told you I would be."

"She reciprocate?"

"Tried to. What ever this is she's more then willing to trade up," John Ross nods and approaches the couple offering Chris congratulations and kissing Amy's cheek.

Lucy says, "This calls for campaign. Grandma and grandpa would be so thrilled their grandson is marrying Punk and Mavis's granddaughter."

Daphne walks into her penthouse bedroom to find a beautiful young man in bed, naked from the sheet at his waist up. "Marcos DelSol. What brings you to Dallas." Daphne smirks and checks him out.

"I managed to get my father to make me Vice President of Energy Investments, which means I control his CalcoHarwood shares, so I thought I'd come and celebrate with my favorite fellow board member."

A huge smile crosses her face. "You're replacing that buffoon he placed on my company's board?"

"It appears that way."

She rubs his muscular and well defined chest. "This day just keeps getting better and better."

John Ross and Pamela's two older boys join the family at the dinning room table as they all share pleasantries about the good old days.

John Ross comes out of his room in his boxers brushing his teeth. "What surprised me is, Chris didn't try and blackmail me, he just tried to ruin my marriage. Hell, he might as well as went after my children far as I'm concerned."

"I told you, you can't trust him."

Well darling I'm just glad you were in the other room when I brought her to the hotel, but wish you could have seen the look on her face when I turned her down."

"What a slut. And, I really don't like her in my house."

"Neither do I, but it's all fishin' darlin'. And the catch I want is Chris, once and for all. What ever friendship there was been the two of us he done killed by trying to hurt my family. I'd have given him credit if he'd tried and blackmailed me, but that done. I want him gone. One and for all, any means necessary."

"You're wicked."

"And you love it."

"Yea I kinda do."

"I got another letter from my father the other day."

"Really? Why didn't you say anything?"

"Just been processing it. It was all his regrets. He used the word 'beg.' JR Ewing wrote, 'I'm begging you not to make the same mistakes I made.'"

"Too late I suppose."

"When Carlos told me about the money my daddy left, I hatch a plan to loan money to my momma and Uncle Bobby and I took Ewing Global. I did what I had to do. I don't ever wanta be in that position again."

"What? Looking like a failure."

"No, I don't give a damn about what people think of me. Gave that up a long time ago. I mean fighting family, fighting you especially. You thinking I was a failure. Thinking I didn't love you. Thinking the worst of me. That was his regrets and all his fighting."

"What the letter ask to to do?"

"Do darlin'?"

"Come on they all ask you to do something. Destroy Harris Ryland and get his black box to add to JR's red files. So what'd he ask?"

"Said it was time to create and estate plan. So, I'm gonna work it out for the boys to make sure history doesn't repeat itself."

"Like what?"

"I wanta set up the ranch business and a minimum of investments in trust to the boys to share with Bo's kids, to provide money just to pay for the property. Take care of South Fork so it's always theirs. So any of them can live here, they all can, in perpetuity, the house, cottages, apartment above the rec house, available to who ever wants to live here. Pick up what ever room's available.

I want the same trust to own the brand Ewing Oil, so any one in the family wanting to do business as Ewing Oil can, but not until once Bo and I give up on this current incarnation and retire will the name will be available again. Then after that, to who ever gets to it first. Bo has bought 1/2 of Ewing Oil now and he's doing a terrific job. But this version of Ewing Oil I created, so any one that follows me wants to start their own version then the name'll be available.

I also want to divide the old Henderson land into twenty acre lots to be built on by any of 'em, mine and Bo's children and grandchildren and so forth and so on, not to be sold. The idea is to provide them a stable home not to provide them their dreams; they'll have to do that themselves. But give 'Emma place to build if they want to."

Pamela studies him, the expression on his face, his body well oiled with lotion. "And me?"

"You get to keep this room of course darlin'. I'm hooked me you move one of the boys into after you without a fight. And, everything else stays with you, the investments, the houses in Idaho and the Bahamas, everything. When you pass, it all goes to the Ewing Family Foundation. The boys will get first crack at buying one of this houses if they want. Bo's shares in CalcoHarwood will go to the foundation as well and his half of Ewing Oil."

"He agreed to this?"

"Was the agreement of giving him all of it in the first place."

"You really think all that will stop the fighting, giving the money away, djaring South Fork?"

"Our boys are gonna get along famously and they'll get along with Bo's kids, not because of some scheme, because the way we raise 'em."

No more Barnes Ewing Feud?"

"All the Barnes are Ewing's now sweetheart, thanks to you." John Ross leans over and kisses her.

Bo rolls around naked in bed with Amy, yet he can't get over that Chris actually used her to blackmail John Ross. "You better stay clear sweetheart. My brother's like one of them insects that burrow into ya brain. He'll have control of ya mind before you even know he's there. He's patient. You might go years thinking you get along well with him, then you'll realize you're just his bitch. You might want to reconsider."

"Who I should reconsider is you. You can't be good for me."

Swatting her ass he says, "Probably not." Bo dials a number into his phone. A woman answers. Bo says, "I've got Amy here. Come on over." When the woman complains she just can't get away from her husband, Bo says, "Your loss," and hangs up. He then turns to Amy and says she'll be here in twenty minutes." The two return to playing with each other.

"Shit," Bo laughs, "turned ya down."

Chris meets with Marcos DelSol in his office. Chris is delighted that Marcos will represent his father regarding CalcoHarwood."

Marcos, sitting across from him says Chris is a very good looking man and asks if there's something they could do to celebrate their new alliance.

Chris says, "We might work something out."

Lucy looks at dresses in a boutique in Dallas. Amy walks in. After a bit of pleasant conversation where Lucy makes it clear she isn't falling for the girl's southern bell, Pamela shows up. There's a bit of tension in the room.

At one point Pamela leans over and says, "would you be mad at Chris if he caught him using a tooth brush?"

"No. Why?"

"Same principal." She looks up and down Amy with contempt.

Lucy says, "That's enough of that. We all know nothing happened between Amy and John Ross." They look at her with a puzzled expression. "You think I don't keep my ear to the ground in Dallas? Besides I own the hotel." Lucy then looks Amy over, "You better find a way to reign in Christopher. He's gone off the deep end." The looking at Pamela, "And John Ross's turned about a lot more clever than I thought, maybe even wise, I think it might be your influence that might concern me most."

"My influence?"

"He'd have given Christopher back his technology if not for you?"

"Christopher proved he can't be trusted."

"No he can't. You're right. So tell me about this new Ewing Building you've got my cousin building downtown."

"It's not my idea. Something he came up with. Some kind of landmark where he plans to bring together all his investments. Something the people of Dallas can be proud of."

"I see." Lucy looks skeptical. "Well I think I'm done. Don't worry. I won't give away any of the details of what you'll be wearing to the ball. Secrets are safe with me. Ewing men collect women. Ewing women collect secrets."

John Ross sends the boys off to take care of some chores on the farm, dusts himself off and says to an approaching Daphne, "What brings you to Dallas?"

"Just looking around. I do have a question for you. I have this test when I want to see who's the smartest in the room. Say I give you five dollars and ask you to buy something to fill a room. no one is ever able to accomplish it with anything they suggest. What would you buy?"

"A candle and a match."

A smile crosses Daphne's face. "I told Chris you weren't as dumb as he thinks."

"What'd he say?"

"He said there wasn't anything. You have a nice place here. How big is it?"

"Well we've got five divisions taking up part of seven counties. About eight hundred twenty-five thousand acres."

"Cattle?" She says looking out over the fence.

Looking out over the fence as well he answers, "Cattle, horses, peaches, lumber, hunting."

"A man is trapped in a room. The room has only two possible exits: two doors. Through the first door there is a room constructed from magnifying glass. The blazing hot sun instantly fries anything or anyone that enters. Through the second door there is a fire-breathing dragon. How does the man escape?"

"Waits 'til night time."

"Feed me and I live, yet give me a drink and I die."

"Fire."

Daphne turns to look at John Ross and says, "Your father destroyed mine. He died alone in a nursing home, penniless and paranoid. He wouldn't eat. They shoved feeding tubes down him."

"Same thing your father tried to do to mine, first."

"I don't care what my father did. He left me nothing but horrible memories. Your's left you my father's company. I intend to make this right."

"To honor your father or over your own guilty conscious?"

"You can fight Chris. The two of you've been fighting off and on your whole life, as far as I can tell. No, this is not a social call John Ross. I'm here to warm you. I swear I'll break the Ewing family, just like they broke mine."

"I'd rather not go down that path. Is there anything I can do to help, Daphne?"

"Suffer."

"If you knew my demons, you already know I do."

"Your whole family will suffer. Just like I did."

"Now that I can't allow."

"Well than, let the better man win."

"There won't be any winner. That I can promise. But I'll protect my family from you and my cousin. You can take that to the bank."

"I thought when you father died all this'd be over."

"You been doing a lot of thinking over the years. Like when you thought dragging me into your bed when I was kid would strike back at JR. You're sick. As sick as he ever was. You do what ever you have to. And so will I."

"I can't even stand to look at you. Stand the smell of you."

John Ross doesn't say a word.

Daphne turns and goes back into her limousine. The driver closes the door. She lowers the window and looks at him one last time. She smiles and the car drives away. John Ross watches.
