Safer that way. So it's his but really there's. She also left the mineral rights to the foundation. We've got to get working on that right away. Uncle Gary will be just as determined to keep drilling off the land but I won him over by the way I got at the oil under Lotus Point. I'll need you to take care of that with Sal." John Ross grabs Bo's shoulder. </p><p></p><p>Ruby says, "I've got some people out there we can talk to."</p><p></p><p>"Grandma gave the ranch, or at least the cattle business, to Uncle Bobby, years ago. Nice they live near by."</p><p></p><p>"Yes the old Wade Ranch. He bought that for your Aunt Jenna. It had been in her family for generations just like South Fork's been in our family."</p><p></p><p>"So you had one son just like my daddy. And no wife. Just the two of you. Like we are."</p><p></p><p>"I suppose so."</p><p></p><p>"You do know your momma loves you, don't you."</p><p></p><p>"She's OK. She's just real busy. My daddy tells me all the time that she loves me. I know ya do." </p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p>Sue Ellen oversees the set up for the Oil Baron's Ball with Amy Anderson. They're both in agreement. </p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p>In his office Chris tells Jared he just got word that John Ross turned over ten percent of Ewing Oil to Chris. They agree that's not as much as they assumed. Chris is working on finding out if JR turned over his power of attorney to Bo as well. </p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p>Bo watches the Cowboys from CalcoHarwood's private box. Bo says, "Thanks for inviting me Chris." </p><p></p><p>"Of course. My pleasure." </p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p>John Ross welcomes Katherine Wentworth as she steps down out of a private jet. He hands her some papers. "The name Wentworth Industries and your check." </p><p></p><p>She hands him some papers. "My share of Barnes Holdings."</p><p></p><p>"So you know, this will go to my son. And that should take care of you nicely. Ruby's been looking out for you?"</p><p></p><p>"Yes. I ah, I feel safe."</p><p></p><p>"And Aunt Pam?"</p><p></p><p>"I'm not sure if she knows much of anything. They've had her so drugged, but your friend's seem to be looking out for her as well." </p><p></p><p>John Ross states, "Chris had her declared dead." Katherine hands him another paper. He hands her another check. "This will take care of Aunt Pam."</p><p></p><p>"I can't help but wonder why JR Ewing's son would bother helping me and Pam. Other than you get control of everything my father worked for."</p><p></p><p>"I'm not interested in Barnes Holdings, not even its large investment in CalcoHarwood. I promised my grandmother I'd be good to Chris. So, this is for him. And, your shares are for someone else." </p><p></p><p>"Did you ever find Cliff?" Katherine asks. </p><p></p><p>"Not yet." </p><p></p><p>"These people . . ."</p><p></p><p>"They look to control international commodities markets and nothing is more important to them than oil. Your father thought he could handle them. So did your mother."</p><p></p><p>"What makes you think you can?"</p><p></p><p>"I'm not certain of anything, other than if you want to control a snake you'd better know which end you're grabbing."</p><p></p><p>"How's your Uncle Bobby?"</p><p></p><p>"He's fine. Works the ranch mostly."</p><p></p><p>"Things were better then."</p><p></p><p>"When? Before you went into hiding for trying to kill him?"</p><p></p><p>"Just back then, before I knew about these people and what they're willing to do."</p><p></p><p>"I see. Well you'd better get going."</p><p></p><p>"I suppose I should. I'm not sure if I should of thank you or not."</p><p></p><p>"Don't bother. I'm not interested in being thanked."</p><p></p><p>Katherine turns and walks back up the stairs. </p><p></p><p>Once she reaches the top John Ross says, "Don't think you've got any secrets lefts Miss. Wentworth."</p><p></p><p>She turns around looking at him with concern. </p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p>Bobby opens the mail while sitting out by pool of South Fork. One particular letter brings horror to his face. He mumbles, "Pam," and takes off. </p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p>Standing in her office Pamela looks down at the television screen, watching her aunt Rebecca leave the Texas State House a make her way through a crowd of reporters to a waiting limousine. A news reporter says, "Rebecca Wentworth arrived in Dallas today after receiving a full pardon from the governor for attempting to kill Bobby Ewing, nearly thirty years ago. She's been in Switzerland receiving treatment for a mental breakdown she suffered after the tragic death of her mother, Rebecca Wentworth. Miss Wentworth has returned as the U.S. Congress has opened up an investigation into the possible murder of her mother. Evidence has surfaced that a syndicate of global business leaders attempting to control the price of oil may have had Rebecca Wentworth killed in order to get ahold of a drill bit patent held by Wentworth Tool and Die. Former Senator Thaddeus Baxter, an old friend of Bobby Ewing's, has been linked to the investigation." </p><p></p><p>Pamela sits down in bewilderment. </p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p>A black Porsche races down the long South Fork driveway stretching to a halt behind a garage. Bo walks up from the pool, wet and rapping himself in a towel with Jessica in a bikini next to him. John Ross walks out of the back of the house. </p><p></p><p>Chris approaches them, "Where the hell is my father!"</p><p></p><p>Bo yells back, "Don't come racing up here yelling at us." </p><p></p><p>John Ross approaches Chris, squared off, ready for a fight. "He got a letter from your mother!"</p><p></p><p>"My mother's dead!"</p><p></p><p>"No she isn't. I had some people find her!"</p><p></p><p>"What gives you the right to but into my family business."</p><p></p><p>"Grandma asked me. To settle things with for father. Of course you know this means she gets back her share of Barnes Holdings!"</p><p></p><p>"Which is what this is all about isn't i?"</p><p></p><p>"No. I don't want anything to do with your family's business." John Ross hands him a paper. Grandma set up a trust for me to use to buy her share. She's probably not in any state of mind that the purchase would hold up in court, but I doubt she'll take you to court over it. So, it's a gift from grandma to you and a hell of a lot more than she left anyone else. Not to mention your mother being a live."</p><p></p><p>"What the hell do I care about that for? You know how many years she's been out of my life?"</p><p></p><p>"Don't you want to know why?"</p><p></p><p>"No. Honestly, no. I don't want to know a damn thing about her."</p><p></p><p>"Your father's gone to be with her. I can get you the address."</p><p></p><p>"I don't want it." He snatches the papers from his cousin's hand. "Just stay out of my life." Chris gets back in the car and drives off, racing back down the driveway. </p><p></p><p>Bo and Jessica watch John Ross walk back into the house. </p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p>In the living room the Ewing's gather for cocktails. Sue Ellen tells all about the upcoming Oil Barons Ball. The door bell brings and Helena shows Amy into the room. Sue Ellen says to John Ross something about having her over a lot for dinner and how happy JR would be. She also comments about Jessica being over often and how JR wasn't very found of Jordan Lee. The girls talk dressed for the ball. Amy mentions needing to get John Ross to come up north with her for the social season of charity balls. Bo and Jack play checkers. </p><p></p><p>From the back of the house Ruby walks in with a beautiful young woman, somewhere between John Ross and Bo's age. John Ross states that everyone knows Ruby and then says, "And this is Rebecca. Katherine Wentworth's daughter with my father." </p><p></p><p>Sue Ellen chokes. </p><p></p><p>"Katherine Wentworth agreed to marry my father so that Rebecca was born a legitimate Ewing. They quickly divorced right after. She's grown up in Switzerland with her mother and is a Vice President for Swiss Standard Commerce Bank." He then goes about introduce her to his family. </p><p></p><p></p><p>On the way into the dinning room he stops his sister, holding her back. He hands her some papers and says, "Grandma left you a trust fund which I used to buy your mother's shares in Barnes Holdings. It's yours. I'm hoping you'll stick around."</p><p></p><p>"Of course. I've never had a family."</p><p></p><p>"Well now you do." </p><p></p><p></p><p>The Ewing's gather around the table, John Ross in Jock's seat, Sue Ellen in Miss Ellie's chair and Jack next to her in JR's. Ruby joins them across from Rebecca. </p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p>The next morning in his study John Ross hands Sal a note. "This came from my father. He's in Manama. I want you to check with the State Department and the CIA. Find out what's up. Arnie you've taken care of my grandmother's estate?"</p><p></p><p>"All but the pieces you oversaw, your cousin and sisters trust funds. I assume you already meet with them." </p><p></p><p>"All taken care of." </p><p></p><p>"That's a hell of a lot of money you gave them to add to her money so you could buy out your aunt and Katherine Wentworth. That's everything your grandmother left you and then some."</p><p></p><p>"I told her I'd take care of them. And now I have. Don't worry. I held onto control of the voting rights in the trust, in case I ever need 'em. Bo, you and Ruby headed out to California today?" </p><p></p><p>"Right after we're done here." </p><p></p><p>"Good. Remember what I said, Uncle Gary will spook easily over you drilling for oil. Handle him with kid gloves."</p><p></p><p>"Will do."</p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p>Pamela sits at her desk when her secretary opens the door and says, "Ms. Barnes, Miss Ewing."</p><p></p><p>Pamela gets up and welcomes her into the room. "So, you're going by Ewing." </p><p></p><p>"That's right." She hands Pamela a paper and says, "I'm informing you that Katherine Wentworth's share of this company is mine and I expect a board seat." </p><p></p><p>"Do you? Sit down Miss Ewing." </p><p></p><p>The two sit down on sofas facing each other. Yes I do. I'll be in Dallas for sometime. I work for SSC, Swiss Standard Commerce Bank. They own the Cattleman's Bank, which I've been made President."</p><p></p><p>"I see. And living at South Fork?"</p><p></p><p>"For now. I can send you a resume if you like. I graduated from LaRosey and the Sorbonne majoring in art history and western lit and I have my Ph.D. In economics from the LSE."</p><p></p><p>"I see. I assume you'll want to become familiar with the investments of Barnes Holdings?"</p><p></p><p>"When our Grandmother died her will clearly divided this small investment company three ways, but it was Wentworth Holdings then. I'm not a Barnes after all and Barnes money didn't create this company."</p><p></p><p>"What do you suggest?"</p><p></p><p>"Changing the name back."</p><p></p><p>"My father took a handful of investments and created Barnes Holdings from them."</p><p></p><p>"Cliff Barnes was a failure at everything he did, which was a good thing he inherited a share of my grandfather's money or he's of ended up an old drunk in a gutter somewhere."</p><p></p><p>"He made a nice profit selling Barnes Wentworth to West Star." </p><p></p><p>"Bully for him. Though it's not difficult to do when the company was left to you. And what happened to Wentworth Industries? He managed to loose that."</p><p></p><p>"That had more to do with the disappearance of your mother and our Aunt Pam." </p><p></p><p>"I didn't come here to argue. The fact is your father and his sister took advantage of my grandmother. And if I could find a way to break that will I would. As is, I'll settle for sharing this company with the two of you. For now." Rebecca stands. "But it was nice to finally meet you. Cousin." </p><p></p><p>Pamela continues to sit, "I'll reserve my judgement until another time." </p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p>In California Bo explains to a skeptical Gary how they can slant drill in West Fork and how fracking won't harm the ground water. </p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p>The Cattleman's Bank sign is removed from a Dallas high rise and replaced with SSC. </p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p>In his office Chris greets Rebecca. "Nice view," she says.</p><p></p><p>"Thank you. So Pamela tells me you're joining us at Barnes Holdings."</p><p></p><p>"That's right." Rebecca looks over the room as if she's appraising it. "I hear you live next door to South Fork, on a piece I land which use to belong to South Fork."</p><p></p><p>"That's right. I built my own place there. Pamela lives with me. Moved in after she separated from John Ross. You're more than welcome to move in."</p><p></p><p>"No thank you. Though I do hear it's pretty impressive. You convinced Miss Ellie to back your position here? And with Barnes Holdings shares you managed to oust my father."</p><p></p><p>"That's right." </p><p></p><p>"Miss Ellie's shares are now held my a foundation."</p><p></p><p>"Overseen by my father and his brother." </p><p></p><p>"And Sue Ellen. Don't forget Sue Ellen." </p><p></p><p>"Your father's the second largest shareholder, just behind the foundation, but that didn't help him, even when my father side with him against me."</p><p></p><p>"Yes but now your father controls those votes that were Miss Ellie's."</p><p></p><p>"I'm not worried. The institutional investors couldn't be happier with my performance."</p><p></p><p>"They won't be if you loose any of those law suites regarding environmental degradation."</p><p></p><p>"They're in foreign courts. I'm not to worried."</p><p></p><p>"Your father certainly didn't approve."</p><p></p><p>"We've butted heads in several occasions."</p><p></p><p>"So I hear." </p><p></p><p>Rebecca pats Chris on the chest. "You make yourself very vulnerable sticking your neck out like that. Don't underestimate my father. He's not retired to some rocking chair." Her grin reveals great pleasure with the state of things. "John Ross owns a company which cleans up spills like what you've got."</p><p></p><p>"So I'm told. We're not in competition with each other. He's in the old field services business. CalcoHarwood's in exploration, shipping, refining and marketing of oil and natural gas, as well as PetroChemicals."</p><p></p><p>"I'm well aware of what a supermajor does, this company in particular. I've researched it as SSC has increased its investment."</p><p></p><p>"Is that so?"</p><p></p><p>"I consider myself in the information business. I leave the management up to others."</p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p>In California Bo has fun in bed with two girls and the sound of the ocean just outside the wide open glass doors. </p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p>Pamela rides horses with Jack who shows her the new fence he out in with Bobby and then offers to take her to a new water trough he put in with his dad just the other day. She says, "You really like all this ranch work?" </p><p></p><p>"It's OK. It's gotta get done."</p><p></p><p>"But by other people. Next door Chris doesn't do the work himself." </p><p></p><p>"He's got a much smaller place. You know how big South Fork is momma?"</p><p></p><p>"South Fork's half the size."</p><p></p><p>"Not the house, the cattle operation. There five separate pieces to the ranch. It takes everybody pitching in to keep things running."</p><p></p><p>"Still, you can hire the work out."</p><p></p><p>"No I don't think so." </p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p>On a private plane back to Dallas Bo says to Ruby, "That was easier than I though. Uncle Gary was a little skeptical but he came around quick enough."</p><p></p><p>"John Ross will be impressed how you handled him."</p><p></p><p>"I don't get it though. It's not like he needed Uncle Gary to agree. You be mineral rights belong to the foundation. As long as the foundation approves there's no way Gary could have got in the way."</p><p></p><p>"There's always a way. Besides that's not how your brother does business."</p><p></p><p>"From what little I know of my father, it's how JR Ewing does business."</p><p></p><p>"You'll find your brother learned a great deal from your father about business and from Clayton Farlow."</p><p></p><p>"I only meet Clayton a few times. He was good at business."</p><p></p><p>"Yes he was. Besides people like Gary have trouble with people like John Ross. They don't trust them, people with that much money."</p><p></p><p>"What do you mean?"</p><p></p><p>"Well Gary's well off. You're well off. Pamela, Christopher. Even JR. They've all got a great deal of money, but John Ross is in a different league. He meet a friend in college before he dropped out, a chemistry major. He helped your brother with chemicals for fracking when he went wildcatting up in the Dakotas on a hell of a lot of borrowed money from a lot of friends and the parents of friends. The Oil came in and the two formed BASP Chemical and when they took the company public John Ross made his first billion. Then he went into business with another friend in college when he needed specific software to manage oil fields and came up with Penn Systems. Took that public and made a few billion more."</p><p></p><p>"I see."</p><p></p><p>"Your brothers worth in excess of twenty-five billion dollars and growing. He's made friends with Carlos Haddad, the richest man in the world, when Bill Gates isn't occupying the top spot. That's who introduced him to Arnie."</p><p></p><p>"How'd the two of you meet?"</p><p></p><p>"Same place as Sal. College. Penn. John Ross dropped out though. Went looking for oil. I joined the Navy."</p><p></p><p>"He said you were part of Seal Team Six."</p><p></p><p>"I've done a few things. Do yourself a favor Bo. Don't underestimate your brother. He may struggle with school, reading and mixing up numbers on a page, what he's capable of understanding people, in a way that's made him enough money to intimidate people like your Uncle Gary." </p><p></p><p>"Yet he works out of his house."</p><p></p><p>Ruby smiles. "Yes he does."</p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p>In his study John Ross says, "What do you mean you've got a deal for me with Manama. I don't need you to make me deals. Talk to Bo anyway. He's running Ewing Oil now . . . Listen dad, it's my company. If I want Bo to run it, Bo's gonna run it . . . Where are you headed now . . . What are you up to . . . Dad. Dad? Dad!"</p></blockquote><p></p>
JR walks out back of South Fork and toward a waiting helicopter. The family watches from the pool as he climbs up inside and lifts off, quickly flying away from the ranch. Bobby asks, "Why am I apprehensive about his leaving?" John Ross answers, "Because he's up to something. He asked me to fill in for him on the board of CalcoHarwood." "What'd you say?" "No." Bo speaks up, "I told him I would. I don't know much about it, but I can learn." Sue Ellen puts her hand on Bo's should. "Just be careful. JR's got something he's putting together. He hadn't been sitting on that boat with out being up to something all these years." Bobby says he's off to work on some fencing. John Ross tells him that Jack's out in the barn and that he'll be right with him. Sue Ellen heads off to work and meetings all day. John Ross stops Bo from leaving. "Join me in my study." Bo agrees. Inside South Fork in the old family den off the back, John Ross introduces him to Ruby, "He takes care of things for me. Officially he runs BranchWater, a paramilitary business I own. They provide security for oil fields and what not. Unofficially Ruby, Portifino Ruberosia, does what needs being done. This is Sal, Salvador Bernstein. He's my lawyer. He handles that side of things, along with our cousin Margaret in DC. And this is Arnie Leland. He handles the books. You all know my brother. I want you to join us. Sal's drawn up the paperwork. I want Ewing Oil to buy your company in exchange for ten percent. You'll see, it's a very generous offer. My goal is, with options to get you up to bring a fifty fifty partner with me. They can also help you with the board of CalcoHarwood." "Thank you John Ross." "Of course. We're brothers." Sitting down John Ross says, "First I want to talk about West Fork. "I think so." "Well there you have it. Now your task is to get at that West Fork oil." "OK. I can do that." "I know ya can." Out in the far back of South Fork Bobby and Jack work on a fence when Jack asks, "Uncle Bobby, why didn't you ever have any kids?" Taken a bit by surprise Bobby takes a second before responding. "I do have a son." "You do? I've never seen him." "We had a fight some time ago and we don't talk much anymore." "I'm sorry Uncle Bobby." "Thank you. It's been very difficult. I miss him a lot." "I know I'd miss my dad. I'm going to stay right here and raise my family at South Fork just like my dad." "That would be nice." "I'm gonna name him John Ross Ewing the fifth." "I'm sure your daddy will love that. What about your wife?" "My wife?" "Don't you want to be married to a pretty girl?" "Not really. I've got grandpa. She'll help with my son." It is kinda nice. Uncle Ray and his boys all seem to get along. Nice they live near by." "Yes the old Wade Ranch. He bought that for your Aunt Jenna. It had been in her family for generations just like South Fork's been in our family." "So you had one son just like my daddy. And no wife. Just the two of you. Like we are." "I suppose so." "You do know your momma loves you, don't you." "She's OK. She's just real busy. My daddy tells me all the time that she loves me. But I kinda wish she was around more." "I know ya do son. I know ya do." Sue Ellen oversees the set up for the Oil Baron's Ball with Amy Anderson. They gossip about Jessica Lee not being the sort of girl Bo should be hanging around. They're both in agreement. In his office Chris tells Jared he just got word that John Ross turned over ten percent of Ewing Oil to Chris. They agree that's not as much as they assumed. Chris is working on finding out if JR turned over his power of attorney to Bo as well. Bo watches the Cowboys from CalcoHarwood's private box. Bo says, "Thanks for inviting me Chris." "Of course. My pleasure." John Ross welcomes Katherine Wentworth as she steps down out of a private jet. He hands her some papers. "The name Wentworth Industries and your check." She hands him some papers. "My share of Barnes Holdings." "So you know, this will go to my son. And that should take care of you nicely. Ruby's been looking out for you?" "Yes. I ah, I feel safe." "And Aunt Pam?" "I'm not sure if she knows much of anything. They've had her so drugged, but your friend's seem to be looking out for her as well." John Ross states, "Chris had her declared dead." Katherine hands him another paper. He hands her another check. "This will take care of Aunt Pam." "I can't help but wonder why JR Ewing's son would bother helping me and Pam. Other than you get control of everything my father worked for." "I'm not interested in Barnes Holdings, not even its large investment in CalcoHarwood. I promised my grandmother I'd be good to Chris. So, this is for him. And, your shares are for someone else." "Did you ever find Cliff?" Katherine asks. "Not yet." "These people . . ." "They look to control international commodities markets and nothing is more important to them than oil. Your father thought he could handle them. So did your mother." "What makes you think you can?" "I'm not certain of anything, other than if you want to control a snake you'd better know which end you're grabbing." "How's your Uncle Bobby?" "He's fine. Works the ranch mostly." "Things were better then." "When? Before you went into hiding for trying to kill him?" "Just back then, before I knew about these people and what they're willing to do." "I see. Well you'd better get going." "I suppose I should. I'm not sure if I should of thank you or not." "Don't bother. I'm not interested in being thanked." Katherine turns and walks back up the stairs. Once she reaches the top John Ross says, "Don't think you've got any secrets lefts Miss. Wentworth." She turns around looking at him with concern. Bobby opens the mail while sitting out by pool of South Fork. One particular letter brings horror to his face. He mumbles, "Pam," and takes off. Standing in her office Pamela looks down at the television screen, watching her aunt Rebecca leave the Texas State House a make her way through a crowd of reporters to a waiting limousine. Former Senator Thaddeus Baxter, an old friend of Bobby Ewing's, has been linked to the investigation." Pamela sits down in bewilderment. A black Porsche races down the long South Fork driveway stretching to a halt behind a garage. Bo walks up from the pool, wet and rapping himself in a towel with Jessica in a bikini next to him. John Ross walks out of the back of the house. Chris approaches them, "Where the hell is my father!" Bo yells back, "Don't come racing up here yelling at us." John Ross approaches Chris, squared off, ready for a fight. "He got a letter from your mother!" "My mother's dead!" "No she isn't. I had some people find her!" "What gives you the right to but into my family business." "Grandma asked me. To settle things with for father. Of course you know this means she gets back her share of Barnes Holdings!" "Which is what this is all about isn't i?" "No. Not to mention your mother being a live." "What the hell do I care about that for? You know how many years she's been out of my life?" "Don't you want to know why?" "No. Honestly, no. I don't want to know a damn thing about her." "Your father's gone to be with her. I can get you the address." "I don't want it." He snatches the papers from his cousin's hand. "Just stay out of my life." Chris gets back in the car and drives off, racing back down the driveway. Bo and Jessica watch John Ross walk back into the house. In the living room the Ewing's gather for cocktails. From the back of the house Ruby walks in with a beautiful young woman, somewhere between John Ross and Bo's age. John Ross states that everyone knows Ruby and then says, "And this is Rebecca. Katherine Wentworth's daughter with my father." Sue Ellen chokes. "Katherine Wentworth agreed to marry my father so that Rebecca was born a legitimate Ewing. They quickly divorced right after. She's grown up in Switzerland with her mother and is a Vice President for Swiss Standard Commerce Bank." He then goes about introduce her to his family. On the way into the dinning room he stops his sister, holding her back. He hands her some papers and says, "Grandma left you a trust fund which I used to buy your mother's shares in Barnes Holdings. It's yours. I'm hoping you'll stick around." "Of course. I've never had a family." "Well now you do." The Ewing's gather around the table, John Ross in Jock's seat, Sue Ellen in Miss Ellie's chair and Jack next to her in JR's. Ruby joins them across from Rebecca. The next morning in his study John Ross hands Sal a note. "This came from my father. He's in Manama. I want you to check with the State Department and the CIA. Find out what's up. Arnie you've taken care of my grandmother's estate?" "All but the pieces you oversaw, your cousin and sisters trust funds. I assume you already meet with them." "All taken care of." "That's a hell of a lot of money you gave them to add to her money so you could buy out your aunt and Katherine Wentworth. That's everything your grandmother left you and then some." "I told her I'd take care of them. And now I have. Don't worry. I held onto control of the voting rights in the trust, in case I ever need 'em. Bo, you and Ruby headed out to California today?" "Right after we're done here." "Good. Remember what I said, Uncle Gary will spook easily over you drilling for oil. Handle him with kid gloves." "Will do." Pamela sits at her desk when her secretary opens the door and says, "Ms. Barnes, Miss Ewing." Pamela gets up and welcomes her into the room. "So, you're going by Ewing." "That's right." She hands Pamela a paper and says, "I'm informing you that Katherine Wentworth's share of this company is mine and I expect a board seat." "Do you? Sit down Miss Ewing." The two sit down on sofas facing each other. Yes I do. I'll be in Dallas for sometime. I work for SSC, Swiss Standard Commerce Bank. They own the Cattleman's Bank, which I've been made President." "I see. And living at South Fork?" "For now. I can send you a resume if you like. I graduated from LaRosey and the Sorbonne majoring in art history and western lit and I have my Ph.D. In economics from the LSE." "I see. I assume you'll want to become familiar with the investments of Barnes Holdings?" "When our Grandmother died her will clearly divided this small investment company three ways, but it was Wentworth Holdings then. I'm not a Barnes after all and Barnes money didn't create this company." "What do you suggest?" "Changing the name back." "My father took a handful of investments and created Barnes Holdings from them." "Cliff Barnes was a failure at everything he did, which was a good thing he inherited a share of my grandfather's money or he's of ended up an old drunk in a gutter somewhere." "He made a nice profit selling Barnes Wentworth to West Star." "Bully for him. Though it's not difficult to do when the company was left to you. And what happened to Wentworth Industries? He managed to loose that." "That had more to do with the disappearance of your mother and our Aunt Pam." "I didn't come here to argue. The fact is your father and his sister took advantage of my grandmother. And if I could find a way to break that will I would. As is, I'll settle for sharing this company with the two of you. For now." Rebecca stands. "But it was nice to finally meet you. Cousin." Pamela continues to sit, "I'll reserve my judgement until another time." In California Bo explains to a skeptical Gary how they can slant drill in West Fork and how fracking won't harm the ground water. The Cattleman's Bank sign is removed from a Dallas high rise and replaced with SSC. In his office Chris greets Rebecca. "Nice view," she says. "Thank you. So Pamela tells me you're joining us at Barnes Holdings." "That's right." Rebecca looks over the room as if she's appraising it. "I hear you live next door to South Fork, on a piece I land which use to belong to South Fork." "That's right. I built my own place there. Pamela lives with me. Moved in after she separated from John Ross. You're more than welcome to move in." "No thank you. Though I do hear it's pretty impressive. You convinced Miss Ellie to back your position here? And with Barnes Holdings shares you managed to oust my father." "That's right." "Miss Ellie's shares are now held my a foundation." "Overseen by my father and his brother." "And Sue Ellen. Don't forget Sue Ellen." "Your father's the second largest shareholder, just behind the foundation, but that didn't help him, even when my father side with him against me." "Yes but now your father controls those votes that were Miss Ellie's." "I'm not worried. The institutional investors couldn't be happier with my performance." "They won't be if you loose any of those law suites regarding environmental degradation." "They're in foreign courts. I'm not to worried." "Your father certainly didn't approve." "We've butted heads in several occasions." "So I hear." Rebecca pats Chris on the chest. "You make yourself very vulnerable sticking your neck out like that. Don't underestimate my father. He's not retired to some rocking chair." Her grin reveals great pleasure with the state of things. "John Ross owns a company which cleans up spills like what you've got." "So I'm told. We're not in competition with each other. He's in the old field services business. CalcoHarwood's in exploration, shipping, refining and marketing of oil and natural gas, as well as PetroChemicals." "I'm well aware of what a supermajor does, this company in particular. I've researched it as SSC has increased its investment." "Is that so?" "I consider myself in the information business. I leave the management up to others." In California Bo has fun in bed with two girls and the sound of the ocean just outside the wide open glass doors. Pamela rides horses with Jack who shows her the new fence he out in with Bobby and then offers to take her to a new water trough he put in with his dad just the other day. She says, "You really like all this ranch work?" "It's OK. It's gotta get done." "But by other people. Next door Chris doesn't do the work himself." "He's got a much smaller place. You know how big South Fork is momma?" "South Fork's half the size." "Not the house, the cattle operation. There five separate pieces to the ranch. It takes everybody pitching in to keep things running." "Still, you can hire the work out." "No I don't think so." On a private plane back to Dallas Bo says to Ruby, "That was easier than I though. Uncle Gary was a little skeptical but he came around quick enough." "John Ross will be impressed how you handled him." "I don't get it though. It's not like he needed Uncle Gary to agree. You be mineral rights belong to the foundation. As long as the foundation approves there's no way Gary could have got in the way." "There's always a way. Besides that's not how your brother does business." "From what little I know of my father, it's how JR Ewing does business." "You'll find your brother learned a great deal from your father about business and from Clayton Farlow." "I only meet Clayton a few times. He was good at business." "Yes he was. Besides people like Gary have trouble with people like John Ross. They don't trust them, people with that much money." "What do you mean?" "Well Gary's well off. Took that public and made a few billion more." "I see." "Your brothers worth in excess of twenty-five billion dollars and growing. He's made friends with Carlos Haddad, the richest man in the world, when Bill Gates isn't occupying the top spot. That's who introduced him to Arnie." "How'd the two of you meet?" "Same place as Sal. College. Penn. John Ross dropped out though. Went looking for oil. I joined the Navy." "He said you were part of Seal Team Six." "I've done a few things. Do yourself a favor Bo. Don't underestimate your brother. He may struggle with school, reading and mixing up numbers on a page, what he's capable of understanding people, in a way that's made him enough money to intimidate people like your Uncle Gary." "Yet he works out of his house." Ruby smiles. "Yes he does." In his study John Ross says, "What do you mean you've got a deal for me with Manama. I don't need you to make me deals. Talk to Bo anyway. He's running Ewing Oil now . . . Listen dad, it's my company. If I want Bo to run it, Bo's gonna run it . . . Where are you headed now . . . What are you up to . . . Dad. Dad? Dad!"
