The family gather's in the living room before dinner. Eleanor sits with Pam talking about the fair they sponsor every year for the community. "So the Grand Prix, Le Mans, the Autoshow, that's all June. Oh I forgot, the boys like Movement, which kind of kicks off summer in Detroit at the end of May. Then the Freedom Festival with Canada end of June, early July. Then we sponsor the Braddock County Fair before heading up north. Bobby usually sticks around for the Mackinaw race end of the month before we see him but he's up for all of August." "You head up north for the whole summer?" "Yes. Jock and JR come down for a day or so when they need to, and I use to take Lucy to Chicago for a long weekend of school shopping at the end of August, but other than that, we spend the summers in the Porcupine Mountains." "What do you do for so long up there?" "We don't do much of anything. We just enjoy. Then we go back up in late November for hunting and Thanksgiving. We watch the parade on TV." "You watch the parade on TV, mother," Bobby says. "Don't listen to him. Then Christmas is here and in the city and then we go back up to the Porcupine Mountains for New Years, skiing by then and we spend the night at the resort. And that's it until May when we go back up for the morel mushroom hunting, usually a long weekend. I'm going down to Florida from January through March with Lucy out of school now and Jock promised me we'd travel some." "I don't know if I can take so much time off work, the whole month of August." "Bobby," Eleanor looks up at her son as if to implore him. "I don't know, mother. And I've got this knew job. We don't work like dad and JR and Sue Ellen. We've got to be into the office and things don't just shut down for the month of August." "They should." Sue Ellen says, "I agree they should." The family eats around the table thing about the fair, the sailboat race, being up north for the summer. At night as Pam and Bobby gets ready for bed, she says, “I really can’t take a whole month off. I’m fact without all the things your family keep throwing at me I’m busier than ever. Plus I’ve got a shot an big deal account not affiliated with your family.” “Awesome. Who?” Attaritica, the pharmaceutical company.” “Oh I’m familiar with them. More than half the company comes from businesses they bought up and moved from Michigan. In fact my father’s friend, Punk Anderson, is on their board.” “So you’re telling me they are connected to your family.” “Well in a way.” “So Jock Ewing says something to Punk Anderson. Punk Anderson says something to Dirk Scott, their CEO, and go forth, until I’ve got a shot at landing the biggest new account in recent memory for Tate Stephens.” “I suppose so. Dad wants them to reinvest in Detroit. It’s one of his hot button issues that set him off. Is there a problem if he put the word out to get you involved.” “No I suppose not. It’ll make me the one to beat.” “What do you mean?” “Office politics. Married to Bobby Ewing things change. People talk to me differently. And I get opportunities I wouldn’t otherwise get.” “Is that a bad thing?” “No. A different thing.” JR and Sue Ellen walk into their bedroom, very much a feminine abode with a fire place in the corner. She says, “Well one good thing for you with Pam, she’s gonna keep Bobby away from up north.” “I don’t want my brother out of the family, I want him out of the business.” “He’s done a good job handling the media.” “I’ll give him that. He makes us seem very sympathetic. People like him. Always have. Lord when he was playing football dad would practically throw their daughters at him. “ “That was more Ewing name than football.” “Probably. Maybe he is useful, after all.” JR kisses her cheek and walks through a door into a small room, a nanny’s bedroom, with a single bed.
