Do you accept the TNT show?

Yes I accept it. :)
It is much darker than the original Dallas and it doesn't have the same vibe to it as the original show but there's still elements there.

Certainly it was too plot driven and there were some plots that I didn't like at all. Mexican drug cartels, brothels, threesome etc etc.
I don't find it entertaining to watch that.

But sadly I do think that Dallas is a product of it's time. The original Dallas was set in the 1980s and for most of us that represents our childhood or youth. It was a time when our lives were easier. So we look back on it fondly. :swing:

The new Dallas represents the 2010s. The society today has changed since the 1980s and crime and organized crime have increased. So considering that maybe it is not so strange that they have plots involving the Mexican drug cartel in the new Dallas. It's simply a reflection of it's time.

We now live in a society that is not as nice as it once was. I think a lot of us still wish we could be "Pollyanna's" to quote Karen McKenzie in Knots Landing. But that time is gone. :(

What I find sloppy however is how they altered some characters personalities a lot without exploring in the storylines why they changed into those persons. I really hate what they did to Cliff Barnes and how he never got out of jail. :(

I wonder if incorporating the Mexican angle hurt TNT Dallas internationally. When I compare Lorimar Dallas to TNT Dallas I feel Lorimar Dallas had an international feel as opposed to TNT Dallas which appeared to be a series focused on local stories. On paper Lorimar Dallas should not have become the international hit it did since it told the story of a rich Texas family squabbling over money. The writers however were clever in telling stories Mr & Mrs Average could relate to.

TNT Dallas felt more like a local story only viewers in America and Mexico could care about. Most times when watching TNT Dallas I felt like an outsider looking in rather than feeling I was part of the characters journey. Most times I was just watching TNT Dallas, not enjoying it.

A great series will allow viewers to become part of the journey, not alienate them to the point of switching off after 1 episode, as in the case of what happened with TNT Dallas when first screened in the U.S.A.
