Scream 4 is decent its' not among my favorite film it did NOT need to be made at all, but than part 3 didn't need to either that is a decent one but part 4 is the weakest one i think. when i watch these films i watch all 4 of them normally.. the only difference is it has the most gore but at the same time it's got CGI death as well when one cop is killed it's Clearly CGI and not practical effects and it looks awful even for (2011) standards

I like the idea of Scream as a trilogy, and would have been happy to leave it at three. Scream 3 was so silly I simply wasn't left wanting more anyway.

I thought the tone of Scream 4 was far better than 3. There was some genuine suspense and atmosphere at times, whereas 3 felt at all times like those episodes of Seventies and Eighties TV series where they'd run out of ideas and sent the characters to visit a TV studio for the novelty factor.

the only difference is it has the most gore

I suppose it did, but it didn't feel the most gory. The first two films still feel more shocking in that regard because they also had intensity.

Is this the forehead stabbing scene? I didn't study it closely, but it looked OK as I watched it the other night.

What I really disliked about this film was the way they gave some of the victims "funny" lines as they died. The police officer had the "eff Bruce Willis" line, and then you had the kid shouting "I'm gay. I'm gay" in an attempt to stop being stabbed (just ten years on and that would probably get the film cancelled today). It felt really cheap and undermined any power the scene might have had.

the death i'm talking about is Anthony Anderson's death scene that one was f... awful. it looked terrible it was CGI bad CGI it looked to me.

i've only seen part 4 a few times to be honest and do not remember that much about it well it's that forgettable of a film but than i also say the same thing about part 3 as well. and you are right it did not feel more gory than any of the others. the only thing that really breaks my heart at all is that this one is Craven's last film before he died.

i'm sure he did worse film in his career "The Crazies (1973) is one that i thought was awful but many seem to love but i have not seen the remake from a few years back.

but one film he did not direct but only Produced that was really painful to watch is the (1998) remake of Carnival of Souls that one is so awful it was painful to sit through. i borrowed the VHS years ago from a friend who has since passed away some years back. & that film literally makes no sense at all, you can say that the original (1962) doesn't either and that would be true but it makes more sense and you can follow what's going on in that one a hell of a lot better than that awful remake. other than me has anyone seen it?

The balance of comedy and horror is skewed completely the wrong way: it's now a broad comedy with a few jump scares and stabbings. If Scary Movie (coming a few months after Scream 3) was a redundant film by virtue of the fact that it spoofed a film that was already a subtle satire, it's even less needed with Scream 3 fouling its franchise's own nest and becoming a silly Scream cash-in played for laughs.

If SCREAM 2 was too clever for its own good, it was at least clever. The third film in the series took the knowingness of the earlier films and devolved it into outright mockery of itself and its genre. I left the theater feeling kind of sour; the film made no attempt to take itself seriously and felt like a waste of my time.

I've only seen bits and pieces of the SCARY MOVIE franchise. Aside from seeming to be the laziest and most obvious of spoofery, the films' targets themselves had into turned into parodies of themselves. How do you spoof a spoof? It's like doing a parody of a Mel Brooks movie.

i love the scary movie films but they aren't works of art either. what hurts movies like that as i've always said is that they are in on the joke. now than you have a film like Kentucky Fried Movie (1977) a film that is a MUST see and not for kids in any way, or Airplane (1980) made by the same people they played it straight and Serious

Yes. That's very similar to how I felt that first time. At the time I didn't hate it - I suspect I would were I to watch it for the first time now, but nostalgia helps me to find stuff to enjoy in it still: from some good actors to the attempt to give closure to the main characters. All the same, the whole tone felt wrong and it was a far more shallow and hollow experience than either of the first films. It's one of my more disappointing film experiences and particularly so with it being promoted as the final act of a trilogy.

I've seen all four of the SCREAM movies I'm sure, but I may not have seen SCREAM 2 at all. I've seen SCREAM 3 the most via the TV airings, but I don't watch horror/slasher/scary movies anymore because the language and content is so rough.

Very promising reviews!

Oh wow. That's the best kind of promotion a film can have. I feel quite excited just reading them.

On the subject of Scream, I've ordered the new soundtrack set released yesterday:

Scream: Original Motion Picture Soundtracks (6-CD Box Set)
MARCO BELTRAMI
SCREAM: ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACKS (6-CD BOX SET)
UPC: 888072266865
Release Date: 1/7/2022

Regular price$ 69.98

Scream was perfectly pitched when it came out in 1996: written by Kevin Williamson and directed by horror master Wes Craven, it was a self-aware send-up of the slasher genre as well as a perfectly executed example of it—and became a huge hit that defined a moment in time. It revitalized the horror genre and led to a franchise, with follow-up films Scream 2 (1997), Scream 3 (2000) and Scream 4 (2011), plus a fifth on the way.

Scream was the breakthrough score for Marco Beltrami, whose avant-garde orchestral techniques and cinematic instincts created a suspense–horror style perfectly suited for the franchise—and not surprisingly led to a major Hollywood career for Beltrami, still going strong. The score is eerie and creepy one moment, evocative and haunting the next—then lurches into pulse-pounding action. It is timeless and sophisticated, befitting modern concert music, while staying intense and pulse-pounding for contemporary audiences.

Beltrami returned for the second, third and fourth Scream films, all of which had their scores released by Varèse Sarabande. Now, all four Beltrami Scream scores are presented in definitive form across six CDs. The Deluxe Editions of Scream and Scream 2 are presented on discs one and two, respectively; an expanded, two-disc edition of Scream 3 is found on discs three and four; and an expanded edition of Scream 4 on disc 5. The sixth disc is an all-new, previously unreleased collection of alternates, outtakes and demos. Liner notes by Jim Lochner incorporate a new interview with the composer…and look for a “Ghostface” surprise in the packaging!

I've ordered the CD bundle that includes an expanded soundtrack from the new film. They've released some nice vinyl box sets of the four Beltrami films as well.

I'm still wondering if I've done the right thing. £85 for seven discs seems pretty steep - especially considering I already have the Deluxe Editions of the first two films' soundtracks - but I've been really hoping for a DE to the third film, and the expanded Scream 4 soundtrack won't come amiss.

I'd rest easier it if I knew it wasn't going to halve in price in a few months. Ideally I'd prefer individual DEs for the third and fourth films with covers to match the two already released. That bonus disc, though, is a huge selling point and I suspect that may be exclusive to this set. I felt panicked that it would sell out, which is probably me being gullible to marketing (1800 copies available, which is probably quite a lot for a film score in this price range). But it's done.

I've ordered the new soundtrack set released yesterday:

I've been thoroughly enjoying this in recent weeks. It's been my travelling music for some short car journeys and is proving very enjoyable for some added atmosphere while doing housework as well.

The expanded Scream 3 soundtrack is especially welcome. It feels like it's been a long time coming. I've realised that there are many tracks on the Scream 2 Deluxe I've barely listened to, despite owning the individual DE for over five years now, so that feels new and exciting all over again.

Must confess I haven't played the 2022 film score at all yet. This must be remedied soon, but since it's not Beltrami I'm not in a rush. It may not feel like a true Scream soundtrack.

Ideally I'd prefer individual DEs for the third and fourth films with covers to match the two already released.

I've resolved this by making covers for Screams 3 and 4 in the style of the two earlier DEs (with matching banner, wording and fonts). I'm pretty happy with the result, and while such a shallow thing shouldn't make a difference to how the discs sound, I do believe I'm enjoying those two soundtracks more as a result.

That bonus disc, though, is a huge selling point and I suspect that may be exclusive to this set.

I also love all the additional cuts and demos from the first four films which appear on the bonus disc, many of which instantly conjure up specific key moments from the films.
