I mean she's the one BH90210 character that stands out.

Oh yeah that was an iconic scene for sure. I always found it funny how the characters first names were the same as on Dallas. Donna & Ray. Of course the characters couldn't have been more different.

I enjoyed Donna's romance with David the most though:

@Willie Oleson if you haven't watched Beverly Hills 90210 I can totally recommend it. It's a soap opera. Yes it's from the 1990s so there are some stuff that are a bit preachy. But basically it's a soap opera and yes it did have some good cliffhangers and plot twists. I love this show. I would rank it among my top ten favorite shows. :)

For me, I always felt that I watched Beverly Hills, 90210 in spite of the character Donna Martin. In the early years, I watched the show for Brandon, Brenda, Kelly, and Dylan. Having Valerie replace Brenda easily made 90210 continue to be worth watching. And then Gina was a fantastic replacement for Valerie. What the show never found an answer for was replacing Dylan McKay. Luckily he returned for the final two seasons. His character was easily what made the show most enjoyable for me.

Did this show have big plot twists and OTT cliffhangers?

I guess it depends on what you mean - 90210 was never big on season finale cliffhangers, but other "regular" episodes had them.

But most of the season finales mostly had characters being repositioned rather than mortal ones.
