This scene was something of a departure for EastEnders when it aired in the 90's. Firstly, the scene appeared before the opening credits. I'm not sure if they'd done that before or if they've done it since. It's not something I can recall seeing again. Secondly, they hadn't really dabbled in the whole dream sequence world prior to this. We've seen more recent examples of them playing with reality like Pat appearing to Peggy and Lucy's ghost hovering over the square but a dream sequence in the 90's would've been regarded as a staple of American daytime soaps rather than English primetime fare. This scene aired at the start of Kathy's departure episode.
