Singapore's state of cleanliness was world-renowned even in the 1980s, due to first Prime Minister Lee Kwan Yew's mid-60s vision for turning the tiny island-nation into a "first-world oasis in a third-world region". Its determination on cleanliness reached a zenith when it banned chewing gum in the early ‘90s, and this was widely reported and talked about internationally. But Singapore met with outrage because it upheld, still upholds, caning and the death penalty in sentencing measures on a whole menu of acts deemed criminal; which the SPS is legally obliged to carry out. As for filthy, prison cells, I suspect that the idea that non-Western world nations have living standards less than the "first-world" is so deeply imprinted in the human psyche that even works of fiction can't escape the thinking. And, when called out on these works of fiction, the knee-jerk reaction is to deny the ignorance of the true situation with cries along the lines of "get real, it's only fiction". If folk want to be dim witted about things and show it to the world, my reaction is to say: Be my guest & brace yourself. @Matthew Blaisdel I had hoped you could have discerned my comments for what they were. Krystle was free to have her memories in prison in her alone moments, though having them centered on her comparing prison experiences rather than family times or lost love is unbelievable. I didn't dismiss your plotless Dynasty fan fic idea out of hand -- even though it was more a Caress’s prison story II. I went with your idea but attempted, clumsily, to improve it and not repeat the exact formula; by turning it into a character- and true environment-driven scenario grounded in some realism. Soapland is far better off with that. And, no, you can't possibly ruin my world picture. :)
