Former Labour political adviser Derek Draper has died

Derek Draper, the author and former political adviser, has died aged 56, his wife Kate Garraway has said.

Draper had been living with extreme complications from Covid since contracting the disease in March 2020.

This is desperately sad news and his wife Kate and children Darcey and Billy must be devastated. I think this is more than just a family loss because the wider nation followed his plight and the ups and downs during his long fight against the affects of Covid-19 so many of us will feel affected by this news.

I won't forgot that while Derek, and many thousands like him, was in hospital gasping for breath, Boris Johnson, Rishi Sunak and the Tories were partying.

Thats very sad< I never really knew who Katie Garraway was as i dont watch morning TV but the documentary she made about her husband was very sad and very moving.

I dont think Ive seen anyone who has been so affected by Covid as he was, and it was shocking how badly it affected him. Its such a strannge illness - some people had it but were barely affected and others life will never be the same again.

He put up a brave fight and it must have been hard on their children

When you see pictures of what he was - and compare to last 3 years - its heartbreaking, and there is living .............and living/surviving - and how he was living must have been incredibly hard. He is at peace now and i hope the press give the family time and space to grieve x
