Happy Birthday to one of my faves from original Dallas - JR and Sue Ellen's son, John Ross played by Omri Katz. I would have loved to have seen him back for Dallas 2012.

Happy Birthday Omri!!!!

I understand why the producers went for a fresh face in choosing Josh Henderson as John Ross. I had my concerns since I only knew of Josh from his small stint in Desperate Housewives. Still, I wonder how things would have played out if Omri had returned to the role. He and Larry had a natural rapport which I found believable in their roles as father and son, something which I found lacking in TNT Dallas. It may not have helped that Larry was in poor health so not enough screen time was accorded.

Omri was a great little actor on Dallas from his very first scene after the Southfork fire and he had good chemistry with all the principle characters he interacted with. I think he's 41 now but still looks like the adorable child that appeared in Dallas. I hope he had a happy birthday.

When watching the above clip it's embarrassing to watch Cathy Podewell being upstaged by Omri, a child actor, in the acting department. Cathy (Cally) has a voice which would strip wallpaper and displays no facial movement compared to Omri's range in voice and facial movements to fulfill the scene. Joshua (Christopher) is another great find. His scene with Patrick (Bobby) is a joy to watch and sometimes I have to remind myself these are just kids playing against seasoned actors, but they're holding their own. I sometimes wish, after Pam flees Dallas, the writers left Bobby as a bachelor for a long period of time and he spent all his energy in looking out for Christopher. And when he says, "What if momma came back and you were already married." Well, it just breaks your heart. Kudos to Omri and Joshua.
