If Roy Evans hadn't been killed off in 2003, would Pat still be in the show today? I think the answer would and should have been YES, they'd have been a classic soap couple like Jack/Vera, Hilda/Stan and Derek/Mavis. Roy Evans would have got the last laugh and triumphed over his rival Frank Butcher in the end. Characters like Pat are sadly missed in EastEnders nowadays, a lot would have been dependent upon the actors Tony Caunter (Roy) and Mike Reid (Frank), with Tony Caunter still being alive and well, whereas Mike Reid passed away in 2007. I think Barry Evans being killed off too was a mistake as well as Roy Evans, and how the writers turned Barry into an idiot compared to when he first arrived. Roy/Barry were similar to Frank/Ricky, the only problem and downside was the character Janine that came in between and undone all that. As for Pat, she may still have had her fling with Patrick and Roy would've forgave her, the only thorn/rival in Roy's side was Frank. Even The Mitchell Brothers got along better with Roy Evans too a lot more than Frank Butcher, and even Den Watts would've also because Frank was too confrontational and argumentative towards The Mitchell Brothers, Den Watts and Dan Sullivan, although I liked the fact Frank was tough and stood his ground against the 4 of them in a way no other male character in EastEnders ever would.
