[QUOTE="TJP, post: 437163, member: 5151"] If Duffy ever said that, it is the most unfounded statement ever. Lorimar's only successor-in-interest is Warner Bros. Entertainment, Inc., and they solely own all the rights to the show. Period. What he said (if he said it) might be another myth used as an excuse why a new "Dallas" is unlikely to happen. Truth is that the 2012 TNT continuation did not meet the studio's expectations of viewership, particulary not on an international basis. The "continuation" (which stupidly ignored the reunion movies) had a promising start, but it turned out to be one of the most poorly written shows from the standpoint of continuity and character development. Cynthia Cidre and her cohorts clearly had no idea of the background of the original characters (other than a few features that were most obvious), and they brutally recreated and retconned almost everything to make it fit into their new story ideas, making the new show something that was merely labeled "Dallas" to capitalize on a successful name, but the new show did not deserve being regarded as a genuine sequel. I acknowledge, however, that some single story arcs were handled well, particularly the aftereffects of J.R.'s death. But how would a new sequel deal with the mess Cidre left behind? How could someone repair the damage she did to the series? If a new producing staff wanted to be true to the series, they would either have to ignore the 2012 sequel completely or just turn a blind eye on everything and continue with the same ignorance that Cidre brought along. I don't see how the serious mistakes that were made in the 2012 series could be explained away to make room for a genuine continuation — except, maybe, if Pamela wakes up from another dream or a coma she has been in since at least 2012, but I'm sure none of us wants three more dream seasons.
