I totally agree with this statement. I've been disappointed with the way the writers have been ruining the character. It isn't the old Jim we used to know, there's absolutely NO way the Jim of 1989-2000 would have robbed a bank, beat Peter Barlow up in prison and lied and used his dead daughter's name to try and con his own family out of money (Gwen did same to Jim back in 2000) . Oh, and why Jim had the white walking stick in his last stint i'll never know. Jim and Liz have been done to death now, any such romance between them has completely gone, it would therefore make sense to bring back Gwen to give Jim some more storylines in line with the old Jim, and bringing back Andy too. I mean EastEnders brought Lorna Cartwright back when Phil Mitchell's alcoholism got to its critical stage in 2016 with Phil's eventual liver damage/cirrhosis. The only way to redeem Jim now would be exploring his father son relationship with Steve and Andy, meanwhile Gwen would probably return to stir things up between them, maybe Gwen could become a soap superbitch like Janine Butcher (so much potential storylines there) and eventually Jim, Steve and Andy would unite together as a family and Liz would probably be a promiscuous woman once again. I always remember Phil and Jim starring in The Firm in 1989 alongside each other on the same side. If East Street had been done in 2007 instead of 2010, Phil and Jim could have met and possibly got along like Dev and Masood did.
