Music rights for "Knots Landing" were never an issue. I don't know how many times I said that, but it's an urban myth that was apparently created by people who didn't want to realize that "Knots Landing" was very weak in sales beyond the original U.S. market. It never came anywhere near the international success of "Dallas", "Falcon Crest" and "Dynasty", so Warner Bros. simply did not care about the show for a long time. Pure and simple. The very poor DVD sales of seasons 1 and 2 showed that the show does not have enough following to justify a release on physical discs — if we like that or not, that's the truth. I never understood why the "music rights" myth was copied and copied and copied and spread all over the web in the last few years. But it's typical of the internet. Things do not become true or correct just by repeating them over and over again. However, a few months ago, Warner Bros. commissioned an entertainment lawyer to double-check if all rights have been cleared for the upcoming releases of many of their old Lorimar library products, including "Knots Landing", "Falcon Crest" and "Flamingo Road" (also because they wanted to be on the safe side for future HD releases, which are expensive for the studio). The result was no surprise: no problems, and nothing to be cleared, of course! I know this contradicts what was quoted above, but it only makes sense since, as I said, music rights were never an obstacle.
