I sadly believed that the dutch flying company KLM was trustworthy. Huge mistake! In 2002 i wanted to make holidays in Miami for 6 weeks, had saved money all the year for that. I booked the hotel and the flight seperately. My Passport was valid only 5 weeks longer, so the last week of my holidays i would have had no valid passport anymore. So i went to the airport a few days before the flight to ask if that was a problem, because i could have easily organized a provisional passport which was valid for 8 weeks and cover the whole time. That asshole from the KLM counter told me "No problem sir, it's only important that your passport is valid at the moment of entering the US, you don't need a provisional passport." followed by a disgusting smile. Allright then, so i don't have to worry about that. So a few days later at December 30th we landed in Miami, went to immigration and i showed them my passport. They asked me "Are you aware that your passport will expire during your stay here?" I said "Yes". "Wrong answer, sir. I will not let you in like this. If you said you didn't know, it would not have been a problem." WHAAAAT?! I felt they were kidding me big time! I got very angry and said that KLM told me it's okay like that and that i could enter. He showed me the paper with the rules. It was written there that in such case they would MAYBE let me enter, but that would be up to the officer of immigration. And because i said i knew my Passport was going to expire, they didn't let me in. Because i told the truth!!! Had i lied, it would not have been a problem! It was a year after 9/11 and they really treated me and my friend like criminals, opened my suitcase and all the bags, threw the stuff on the floor and my Gameboy and several more stuff was broken by those officers. Of course my friend didn't want to make the holidays alone, so we were put right into a flight back to germany. It was December 31st and we were on our flight back, when normally we were supposed to watch the great fireworks at Miami Beach. Worst newyear EVER! :brick: I was told, that from now on my entry in the US database is marked for lifetime. It will always just depend on the mood of the immigration officer if i can enter or not. If the guy has a bad day or just doesn't like my nose, i can't get in. To high of a risk for me, so i can't visit the US anymore. :( Back in Germany i went to that f*cking KLM and said i wanted the money back at least for the flight, because they gave me the wrong information. "You got what you paid for sir, one flight to the US and one flight back!" Yeah, great! THANKS A LOT!!! :re: I asked the lawyer of my parents for help, who is very good and a friend of the family, and he said that i really can't do anything in that case. It was my fault that i trusted that KLM guy. They fullfilled their debt, i got the 2 flights. And rules of immigration say that it's always the passenger's duty to inform himself of the immigration rules. But what more can i do than ask directly at the KLM desk at the airport and they say "It's okay"??? :censer: So money for the flights gone, money for the nice appartament in Miami beach gone... and i have a lifetime problem with entering the US now and can't do anything about it. :( Sorry for this long offtopic post.
