Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis (often simply known as Martin and Lewis) were a popular comedy duo that met in 1945 and debuted as an act at Atlantic City's 500 Club on July 25, 1946. The duo stayed together for ten years to the day, disbanding on July 25, 1956. Both Martin and Lewis therefore had their own equally successful solo careers for several more years.

They started performing in nightclubs before they transitioned to radio in 1949. Later, they branched out into television and eventually appeared together in a total of seventeen feature-length films. The duo was originally known solely as Martin and Lewis, but later became widely renowned as Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis, which helped them transition more smoothly to solo careers once their partnership dissolved.

Such a shame they had to break up for they were such a great comedy duo. I know people that were rooting for them both to fail after the breakup just so they would maybe get back together but obviously that wasn’t the case. They both did very well without the other

I have a moderate fondness for Dean Martin, a charming, breezy light comedian/crooner who was not unlike Bing Crosby. Jerry Lewis, on the other hand, I find to be one of the most grating personas ever put on film. I've never made it through the entirety of one of their films, but I've seen clips; it's perplexing to me that Lewis was considered the talented one. People in the 50s had some weird notions.

from what Jerry Lewis aka Bill Barr no joke when Jerry got fat later on that's who Bill Barr looks like a fat Jerry Lewis. anyways Jerry Lewis later said that they broke up simply because he sensed that Dean wanted to do things on his own and so did he and he also felt like they did everything they could do & felt like it was time to end the act. and he just may have been right i dunno, i like Dean Martin better than Jerry though to be honest but Jerry was no Genius unlike what France may think but he was a talented guy i think. i'm dying to see "The Day the clown Cried (1972) a film that is allowed to play in public in a couple years in fact i forget the year though IF they so choose to do so i mean. i forget what the actual deal was though

He was cuter physically when he was very young, but Jerry Lewis seemed very hard-boiled, especially as he got older. In fact, I smell bastard.

Joan Collins claimed Dean Martin said Jerry "doesn't care anything about the kids" for whom his eternal telethons raised money.

That's not what Lewis says in his book, Dean and Me. He says the decision to use their full names was a conscious one from the outset. It put them in alphabetical order but rolled more easily off the tongue than "Lewis & Martin".

Talented in the comedy, not necessarily overall. Jerry Lewis is certainly one of the more divisive film personalities but, love him or hate him, it was largely his vision.

John Carradine i dunno how many know this, During the filming of (1964)'s The Patsy Carradine got the script for well "The Munsters" in fact and was offered the lead and he wanted to do it and he was going to do it but he went to Lewis and Lewis told him NO! well the thing with Lewis was instead of filming he was showing off for the fans & paying more attention to the fans than the actual filming of the film. he was pissed at Lewis and he from than on said that the only good thing about that movie was the binder the script came in which he used for the rest of his life i believe & he was forced to tell his agent who was begging him to take it

and they were forced to go with Fred Gwynne now i dunno what kind of performance he would have given but remember that he turned down the role than they went to Carradine and when Carradine turned it down or was forced to than Gwynne went back and said yes after thinking about it. so he was forced to take the role of i believe his boss i believe. that same film also had Peter Lorre hate that picture with a Vengeance he hated being on that film that it killed him and i wish i was joking his hatred and prolly stress as well ended up killing him cause of his hatred for Jerry Lewis and i can believe it. Lewis was a big shot back than and so his Ego was Enormous i'm sure and it's a shame that he had to be like that i think. i've always had the feeling that Dean Martin was a kind of laid back kind of guy outside of his films & sure he had his moments as well but i never got the impression he had an ego at least not the size of Lewis's. Lewis always seems to be really high strung compared to Martin and it's really a wonder how they even worked together for so long. but Lewis could be good when he wanted to on SVU he was really good damn good and that was the last thing i saw him in before he died.

What I presented could very well be inaccurate. I didn't do any in-depth research to start this discussion. I just went through Wikipedia and got some inspiration from there. And we all know that Wikipedia isn't always the most reliable source.
