It's only taken me two years but I've finally gotten around to mounting
Mount Royal. And as
@xab pointed out, it's a bit of a snoozefest. The first thing that strikes me is the mismatched opening sequence. The titles look like a daytime gameshow (
Going for Gold was the first thing to spring to mind) while the vocal theme sounds like something from an 80's Australian kids drama, rather than a chic soap. I didn't bother finishing the feature length pilot as I was bored to tears, so I jumped ahead to the fashion kidnap extravaganza episode which opened with the "plain" sister (a reporter I believe) working the streets undercover in a wig Cher would be proud of. The Paris fashion show is the epitome of what this show appears to be - a bargain bin
Dynasty with splashes of glitz here & there. The sets feel a bit like low budget
Return to Eden but then there's location scenes at the Eiffel Tower and French chateau thrown in here and there that drag the show a bit more upmarket. Granted, what I have watched so far has been minimal but it just isn't the most enticing soap. I'd probably sooner muddle through 26 episodes of
Chateauvallon with my very, very basic French before I'd revisit the denizens of
Mount Royal.
