The description of the series made me think of BRIDGERTON's 16th century cousin, which informed me that I wasn't the target audience.
But I was kinda curious to see how bad it was therefore I clicked "play", and now I'm glad I did.
It is exactly the romantic retcon rubbish I expected it to be but it's also consistently funny in a relaxed and somewhat understated way.
Despite its outlandish premise it appears to be completely devoid of any urgency (comedy or drama-wise) and I could describe it as a naughty fairy tale without any rules except for being as entertaining as possible.
Monty Python meets Derry Girls, or something like that. (I'm a big fan of the "meets").

It is about the girl boss with a diverse cast, but somehow - miraculously - they manage to have their cake and eat it.
MY LADY JANE really pulled the rug from under my feet. The first episode anyway.

It's almost a tradition that a drama series has a beastly mother character, and here it's Anna Chancellor as Lady Frances, Jane's mother.
Jane's kid sister Margaret is a little psychopath, and then there's wannabe-Queen Mary as the murderous villainess.

I mentioned Derry Girls but it's more like a costume drama version of FLEABAG.
MLJ has a great cast and they're all very likeable and super-funny.

Kate O'Flynn is a force of nature as psycho-princess Mary, and should be in a top "number" most entertaining TV characters of the 21st century.

And now they've added the King's murderous grandmother to the story. It's almost bitchier than Footballers' Wives.
Why is nobody else watching this, dammit.
