It's funny how so many viewers are shocked at even suggesting a rape storyline in Emmerdale...
Yet, nearly 45 years ago, the programme (then still known as Emmerdale Farm) tackled the subject.
Distressed 16-year-old, Wendy Hotson, is found by Joe Sugden, following a brutal raping in the woods (3rd April 1979).
If the reactions to a story of an older adult being raped are anything to go by, I wonder what viewers' reactions to portraying it with a 16-year-old were, at the time.
Observation... considering the locality and topicality of 1979, this was a very brave subject to feature... this being the famous era of The Yorkshire Ripper.
