So I’ve mentioned and tried this idea, wondering reactions to the following:
Placed in mid 2020s, present time, Michigan, with a diverse cast using the general set up and ideas of Dallas:
Ewing Enterprises, main company Ewing Oil founded by Jock’s dad (so the wild catting time line makes sense), but destroyed by him as well and then rebuilt by Jock into a conglomerate of businesses.
Jock, a man’s man, Jewish boy raised in the oil fields and refineries of the Midwest. Spent a couple years in Vietnam.
Miss Ellie, a Roman Catholic, French, farm girl who runs Southfork Farms and the Southfork Dairy Company (part of Ewing Enterprises)
JR, taken over for his retired daddy, find lithium to be mined in South Fork, enough to make millionaires into billionaires with a new mining process, going after it but Miss Ellie opposes him, so does Cliff Barnes, chairman of the DNR committee. In the 1st Cliff hanger, so disliked by everyone anyone could have shot him
Sue Ellen, a beautiful black woman from eastern schools and a blue blooded pedigree who turned to modeling to make her own way before marrying JR, runs the Ewing Family Foundation and member of the DOA with her mother in law.
Patricia Sheppard, supper wealthy widow of a French billionaire
Kristen Sheppard, Sue Ellen’s sister who wants to be as well off as her 1/2 siblings in France and her well married sister
Bobby, the young stud, just out of grad school, who marries Pamela and wants involved in the business.
Lucy, the granddaughter in college who looks up to her Uncle JR and Grandfather and intends to run the company
Ray, the illegitimate son from Vietnam who runs his own tech company (Jock helped set him up) having come to Michigan to build a factory that needs Ewing batteries for its cars
Mickey, Ray’s nephew, handsome stud who works the farm while in college to learn the value of hard work but wants more, influenced by Jock and JR, friended by Lucy, bisexual (used by JR to help with Herbert Wentworth)
Pam, Hispanic, account executive for a PR firm, her father’s a drunk who hates Jock, her brother is a politician / lawyer trying to ruin the Ewing’s, and she’s got bigger ambitions
Herbert Wentworth, the super smart owner of Wentworth Tool and Die, the owner of the new tech to bring up the prized lithium that JR needs who’s separated (unseen wife and daughter living out east) and bisexual
Cliff Barnes
Digger Barnes
