Culhane wants out of the soccer team now that it seems Dawkins and his cohorts have him over a barrel. He goes to Jeff and his loud green suit for advice. The solution:
Sam will pretend to be interested in buying the team? I'm gonna need more info on that.
Anders visits to give Fallon the 'family calendar'---personal appearances, etc. that the family head has to honor since the Carringtons are still movers and shakers in Atlanta. Fallon is more interested in the business side of things, but she agrees to attend the opening of a library. Some pre-teen kid gives Fallon a load of grief, which causes her to get angry and it all ends up being filmed by the press. We also see that Fallon's assistant Alison quit two weeks ago.
In yet another attempt to clean up a press debacle, she okays some medical research at the hospital where Adam works (home of the infamous "Carrington Wing," one assumes). She then goes on a "giant check" writing spree to try to buy the public's approval.
Blake thinks that Father Caleb will choose the Church over C3. Anders is just relieved that he won't have to heave Caleb into the lake. C3 shows up with
cleavage out the wazoo to scold Blake for threatening Caleb in the previous episode, but he refuses to apologize for wanting to win her back. In the end, thanks to a series of manipulations, Caleb decides to stay in the priesthood and to break it off with Cristal.
Jeff arrives at the manor to announce that Dom's mother/his grandmother has died. She had actually called Dom that morning, but Dom admits she didn't take the call. Jeff reacts negatively to Dom's obnoxious plans for the funeral---and she seems genuinely hurt. Monica returns as soon as she finds out. This gives Michael Michele the chance to have a nice eulogy/speech scene at the graveside that is decidedly NOT her usual puffed-up, silly self. Dom and her kids declare a truce, but Jeff doesn't want to be around her if she's going to be doing all that grand-standing. Dom and Monica plan to visit New York to reconnect further.
Dawkins suggests Sam "set up a suite" for them to "discuss" the sale of the team. It's sort of creepy*, sort of funny. Ryan advises Sam to pull a stripper move (no, not that one) by making Dawkins think he has a shot of getting Sam into bed, but get him to talk (on tape) before anything happens. Sam gives Dawkins a nice watch to entice him, but not much else. Dawkins can barely keep his clothes on long enough for Sam to make an excuse to leave.
*
sort of creepy because Dawkins's portrayer, Coby Ryan McLaughlin, was most recently seen playing the head of an abusive sex cult on General Hospital.
One of Fallon's 'family calendar' tasks stands to conflict with the funeral of Jeff and Monica's grandmother, the woman who basically raised J&M. Fallon has to give a "state of the company" speech to the C-A shareholders, where she realizes mid-speech that she made the wrong decision. So she cuts the speech short and leaves.
Culhane plays a tape for Dawkins where he incriminates himself. Turns out the watch that Sam gave Dawkins has a listening device in it, so now Culhane has the goods on the guy and I'll assume Culhane no longer has a storyline.
In the final scene, Fallon is annoyed when it appears Blake is trying to muscle back into being the head of the family, the turf that Fallon obviously intends to defend.
