EastEnders Sharon & Dennis aka "Shannis"

In my opinion, best couple, Letitia Dean and Nigel Harman has excellent chemistry, that has yet to be matched, Sharon was definitely at her best when she was with him, she wasn't Den's spoilt princess or Grant's broken spirited possession, she was simply Sharon Watts when she was with Dennis, the were almost a next generation Den and Angie but a corrected, secure and more mature version of them.

"Shannis" are the bright spark in the 2004 era, which is seen by many as one of the worst years in the show.

"Shannis" was probably one of the few soap super couples in the UK at that time I think, though I'm not certain, it seems that even to this day Sharon doesn't seem to be quite over Dennis's death, I feel that in LD's performance in some way, I feel that putting her with Phil is a bit of a step back, but a realistic one in a way, she's fallen back onto Phil because he's always been there for her as for back as when she was married to Grant, some say that Dennis was simply a stepping stone for Sharon on the pathway to Phil, but I don't agree with that statement at all.

Who else enjoyed "Shannis" ?

I enjoyed it too, the thing that ruined it was killing Den Watts the 2nd time around, and eventually Nigel Harman left of his own accord so Dennis was killed off too. Phil should have been killed off instead of Den and Dennis.

I liked the way Dennis floored Phil with one punch on his debut (Phil has been awful since the year 2000+), but Dennis couldn't get the better of Grant though who threw him onto the piano lol!

It feels that Dennis Rickman has virtually been erased from EE's history, I simply cannot buy Sharon & Phil, sure they had something back in the 1990s but that was desperation on Sharon's part more than anything.

1: Had Grant treated Sharon better, it's no way Sharon and Phil would be a thing, even if Grant and Sharon did divorce a few years later than they did originally.

2: While Dennis was around Sharon barely paid any attention to Phil, Dennis was in fact more threatened by Grant stealing Sharon away than he was of Phil.

3: Simple fact had Dennis lived Shannis would still be together, running the Vic or some other bar in Walford

The strange thing with Shannis is that even after the trials and tribulations they were still an interesting couple, and could face any challenge, they had longevity.

Sharon has become a shadow of her former self since being with Phil, a put upon housewife, Sharon was never this way even with Grant, she wanted a family, career and fun, now she's a de facto Mitchell matriarch and not very happy with it either.

I sometimes what would've been had Sharon NOT returned in 2001 and if Kathy had returned instead, we'd have a better idea by 2029/2032.
