One could argue the change was gradual, from the time the word FARM was dropped to the time the plane was dropped onto Beckindale it was still largely a familiar show, 1995 was the real change, by then Annie & Amos had left the village barring the couple of cameos in 1995 & 1996, Joe was dead, the Dingles were firmly established, Kim had gone all out bitch mode, 1993 & 1994 were still indistinguishable from the farm era and that is why I like those years better than 1995. Yes I get we need to move forward but Emmerdale no longer seems like a village in the country, it looks like a suburb of Leeds and the new crop of characters are completely chavvy and weak, it’s taken Emmerdale down the EastEnders route. Sometimes in order to move for we need to go back to the past and Emmerdale has strayed too far from its roots, that’s why the Barton’s worked so well when they arrived in 2009, they were a lower middle class farming family akin to how the Sugden’s were back in 1972. The fact is Emmerdale is no where near as good as it was from 1972-1994, or even in the 2000s.
