Sons of Anarchy sequel is happening as Mayans MC gets a pilot order at FX
Get ready to rev your engine all over again! The long-awaited Sons of Anarchy sequel series is now officially in the works.
FX over in the US has ordered a pilot for Mayans MC, a companion to Sons of Anarchy based around the SAMCRO biker gang's Latin rivals.
This family drama is a collaboration between Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter and Elgin James, writer and director of the Sundance Film Festival hit Little Birds.
The Mayans – or Assassins of God, as they refer to themselves – were a recurring presence throughout Sons of Anarchy as one Northern California's feuding biker gangs.
All throughout the rumours of a spin-off, there have been questions about where it would fit in the Sons of Anarchy timeline and if star Charlie Hunnam would cameo.
Now, we have some answers in an FX synopsis: "Mayans MC is set in a post Jax Teller world, where EZ Reyes, a prospect in the Mayan MC charter on the Cali/Mexi border, struggles with his desire for vengeance against the cartel, and his need for respect from the women he loves."
The Mayans MC pilot is on schedule to start shooting (in more ways than one!) early next year, reports TVLine.
In addition to this spin-off, Kurt Sutter has often hinted about a prequel exploring the early years of SAMCRO too… but there's no news on that front yet.
