The premiere of Star Trek: Discovery has now been bumped to May 2017. No surprise really since they haven't even cast it yet.

That Trailer they released earlier looked SO awful and cheap and emberrassing, like a video game from the 90s. And they got worldwide bad and destroying critique for that, especially from the hardcore-fandom.
Guess they were quite shocked and thought "ok, we won't get through with this cheap crap, let's do it again.."
And although they are eager to get the canon right, i just can't wait to nitpick on all their mistakes

Here´s one of the most interesting things (let´s see if they dare to pull a "Steven" in the space...):

• Gay characters? “Absolutely we’re having a gay character,” Fuller said. He noted that as a gay man working on Voyager, he had a file full of hate mail when there was a rumor a character on his show was going to be gay. So he was determined if he ever did his own Star Trek show, he would have a gay character. “We’ve come a long way since then. I feel like actually gay rights have come a lot further in that time than race issues and women’s issues.”

Bryan Fuller is OUT as Star Trek: Discovery showrunner


In news that will no doubt send shivers throughout Starfleet, Hannibal's Bryan Fuller has quit the Star Trek: Discovery TV series months before its debut.

Don't panic yet - Variety reports that while Fuller will be stepping back as Star Trek: Discovery's lead creative force, he will remain on board as an executive producer and continue to help craft its storyline.

Apparently, the decision was made because Fuller is simply too busy with his upcoming adaptation of Neil Gaiman's fantasy novel American Gods and a reboot of Amazing Stories.

Producers CBS TV Studios said today: "We are extremely happy with the creative direction of Star Trek: Discovery and the strong foundation that Bryan Fuller has helped us create for the series.

"Due to Bryan's other projects, he is no longer able to oversee the day-to-day of Star Trek, but he remains an executive producer, and will continue to map out the story arc for the entire season.

"Alex Kurtzman, co-creator and executive producer, along with Fuller's producing partners and longtime collaborators, Gretchen Berg & Aaron Harberts, will also continue to oversee the show with the existing writing and producing team. Bryan is a brilliant creative talent and passionate Star Trek fan, who has helped us chart an exciting course for the series.

"We are all committed to seeing this vision through and look forward to premiering Star Trek: Discovery this coming May 2017."

Fuller also tweeted: "Riker spent 7 years of TNG unready for Captaincy, @GretchenJBerg @AaronHarberts are ready. Thrilled to see them in command of the Bridge."

Bryan Fuller has departed his prized day-to-day showrunner job at Star Trek: Discovery. But apparently he got quite a bit done before vacating his office, including writing the show’s first two episodes, and casting nearly all the major parts.

Well, except for the lead.

CBS and new showrunners Gretchen Berg and Aaron Harberts are seeking an actress who will play the lead in the sixth Star Trek series, described by Variety simply as a young lieutenant commander. That would be the lowest rank of a Star Trek lead character in the television franchise’s 50 years, putting her at the level of Brent Spiner’s Data in Star Trek: The Next Generation or Terry Farrell’s Jadzia Dax in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

It was Deep Space Nine, in fact, that had the lowest-ranked lead for a series as Avery Brooks’ Benjamin Sisko started as a commander (to ensure at the time only one Star Trek series had a captain, Patrick Stewart’s Picard in The Next Generation).

The fact that casting had moved along so far was news to many observers despite the fact the show is expected to go in front of the cameras beginning in just a few weeks in Toronto. Unlike the last broadcast series, Star Trek: Enterprise, where many casting decisions were leaked early, little to no information has made its way through unofficial channels about the casting in Discovery, including who might be up for the lead role.

Variety also shared how much CBS is budgeting for the show – upward of $7 million per episode. That would put Discovery in the range of Game of Thrones on HBO and the short-lived Starz series Camelot, according to Cheat Sheet. It would place it well into the top 10 of the most expensive shows ever produced, topped by NBC’s ER during the George Clooney years, spent almost entirely on casting of people like Clooney.

At the high range, that would put the cost of Discovery‘s first season at just over $90 million.


Fuller will not leave the show completely, Variety reported. He will remain as an executive producer, and continues to map out the first season. Berg and Harberts will get some help from Akiva Goldsman, however, who will join Discovery in a “top creative role.” Goldsman won both an Oscar and a Golden Globe for the 2001 Russell Crowe film A Beautiful Mind.

His screenwriting credits also include I, Robot in 2004, The DaVinci Code in 2006 and I Am Legend in 2007. He also has connections with both executive producer Alex Kurtzman and Star Trek reboot film producer and director J.J. Abrams, writing a dozen episodes for the Fox series Fringe.

Goldsman most recently served on the screenwriting team for the Stephen King film The Dark Tower starring Star Trek: Beyond‘s Idris Elba. That hits theaters in February.

The premiere episode of Star Trek: Discovery will air on CBS during May sweeps, and move to its exclusive home the following week on CBS All Access, the media company’s subscription streaming service.

Finally some casting news. Not much given away but if she is the lead it seems unlikely that she is the original Number One from The Cage. Of course, given today's trend to the non-traditional (see Supergirl's "James" Olsen) one can never be sure.

Casting news for 2017's "Star Trek: Discovery" continues to pour in at speed. CBS on Monday announced the addition of three new cast members who will play Klingons in the new show, which takes place before the original series.

The Klingons are Chris Obi ("American Gods"), Shazad Latif ("Penny Dreadful") and Mary Chieffo (known for her stage work). Obi takes on the role of T'Kuvma, a Klingon leader focused on uniting the various Klingon houses. Latif plays Kol, T'Kuvma's protege. Chieffo steps in as L'Rell, a battle deck commander on a Klingon vessel.

In case you've been hiding in a worm hole, Klingons are an alien warrior species known for their honor, battle skills and occasional skirmishes (or cooperation) with Starfleet ships and crew.

Earlier casting announcements included "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" star Michelle Yeoh as Captain Georgiou of the Starship Shenzhou, Anthony Rapp as openly gay astromycologist Lt. Stamets and Doug Jones from "Hellboy" as Starfleet science officer Lt. Saru. We are still waiting to find out the rest of the cast for "Discovery.

The Walking Dead's Sasha actress Sonequa Martin-Green is Star Trek: Discovery's leading lady

Star Trek: Discovery has found its leading lady in The Walking Dead star Sonequa Martin-Green - but what does that mean for the Ricktatorship?

Although CBS All Access has yet to confirm or deny, Entertainment Weekly reports that Sonequa will be the Discovery's lieutenant commander on its maiden voyage.

This is yet another encouraging step forward for Star Trek, in that Sonequa becomes the first black female lead for the 50-year-old TV institution.


Star Trek: Discovery is also the franchise's first show to be told through the eyes of a Starfleet officer, rather than its captain. The ship's Klingon captain has yet to be cast.

While Entertainment Weekly says that the early plan is for Sonequa Martin-Green to split her time between The Walking Dead and Star Trek: Discovery going forward, Digital Spy has reached out to AMC for clarification.

Sonequa has starred on The Walking Dead for the past four years as Sasha Williams, who looks to be a key figure in the coming war between Rick and Negan.

In addition to her work on The Walking Dead, Sonequa also played the magic-phobic Tamara in Once Upon a Time and paralegal Courtney Wells in The Good Wife.


Her casting in Star Trek: Discovery is another major spot on the bridge crew filled, following the announcement that Doug Jones has been cast as an officer from a brand new alien species.

Broadway star Anthony Rapp will also make history as science officer Stamets, Star Trek's first character conceived as gay.

In Discovery's first season, the crew will cross paths with USS Shenzhou and its captain Michelle Yeoh as well as a trio of Klingon warriors on a quest to unite their race.

Star Trek: Discovery lifts on CBS and CBS All Access next spring in the US. Netflix will stream its first season in the UK.

Star Trek: Discovery casts Gotham star as Spock's father Sarek - but the show's also been delayed again



We have good news and bad news about the highly anticipated Star Trek: Discovery.

On the bright side, Entertainment Weekly is reporting that the upcoming Star Trek TV series will feature Mr Spock's father Sarek - an original series character - in a major season one storyline.

Landing this coveted role is James Frain, who has most definitely creeped you out as Azrael in Gotham, as the psychotic vampire Franklin Mott in True Blood and as Eric Renard in Grimm.

In other words, he's a genre favourite who stands a solid chance of appeasing dedicated Star Trek fans who love Mark Lenard's portrayal of the stoic Vulcan ambassador in the original series and movies.


However, the bad news is that we'll be waiting quite a while to actually see the return of Sarek because Star Trek: Discovery has been delayed for the second time in the last year.

A spokesperson for CBS Television Studios explained: "Production on Star Trek: Discovery begins next week [in Toronto]. We love the cast, the scripts and are excited about the world the producers have created.

"This is an ambitious project; we will be flexible on a launch date if it's best for the show. We've said from the beginning it's more important to do this right than to do it fast. There is also added flexibility presenting on CBS All Access, which isn't beholden to seasonal premieres or launch windows."

The series was pushed to a May premiere date after Star Trek: Discovery's original showrunner Bryan Fuller left the show, and now it looks like we might have to wait until the autumn.
