Steve Wright: BBC Radio 2 presenter dies aged 69

I am gutted and truly shocked as I was only listening to Pick of the Pops and Sunday love songs this weekend
He is one of the few reasons now to listen to R2 (along with Johnie walker and Paul Gambuccini) as its so dumbed down

I grew up listening to Steve / Wrighty and he was one of the best. I was still in a school uniform when I first became a fan
He was funny, witty and a brilliant broadcaster in the same vein as the late great Terry Wogan.
Steve just had it and its a real shock and he was great interviewing guests and you can tell they enjoyed it
My sympathies to his family who must be devastated. He touched our hearts and lives and put a smile on our faces and Shame on R2 for getting rid of his afternoon show last year. No wonder listening figures are plummeting.

I havent tuned in since in the afternoon! I feel I have lost an old friend

Yes, Steve's afternoon shows on Radio 1 in the 80s-90s, and then Radio 2 were always entertaining, full of celeb guests, factoids, and the possy. He cheared me up on many a long car journey, or listening on my walkman back in the day, out walking my dog when I was full of teenage angst.

His show was really fun and it was sad the Beeb had to drop him for Scott Mills, who - likeable as he is - is really not the same and his show a lot more drab. They should have let Steve keep going for his last couple of years. He was a bit in the Kenny Everett mould - celebs always happy to appear 'cos he laughed with them rather than at them, a bit larger than life, always fun, a bit eccentric but reassuringly the same.

My late dad loved his show too. RIP Steve, you'll be missed.

The tribute from Helen Thomas Boss at R2 is two faced and hypocritical since she ousted him from a show he gave his heart and soul too and replaced him with a dumbed down nonentity with no talent = how she got the job I will never know!

No wonder listening firgures are down and I only listen to Johnie Walker, Paul Gambuccini, Gary Davies now and the odd bit of Tony B at the weekend

I hope Steve Wright kew how much he was appreciated and I loved this tribute on FB - see piccy below
