Tales from the Darkside is a cult classic television series. It aired in first-run syndication from 1984 to 1988, after a pilot film had aired shortly before Halloween 1983. Each episode was an individual short story that often ended with a surprise plot twist. The story lines spanned a variety of genres, including horror, science fiction, fantasy, and occasionally black comedy and more lighthearted themes.
Tales from the Darkside is one of the many anthology shows inspired by The Twilight Zone, a popular series from 1959─63 that kicked off the anthologized prime time drama. I remember watching Tales from the Darkside on SyFy, I think, and I always looked at it liked a modernized and colorized version of The Twilight Zone. What's funny is the creepiest thing about Tales from the Darkside is its introduction. It's a creepy voice and creepier woods, but nothing that followed quite held up to that standard.
