Telly Talkers are on a mission!

Telly Talk.png

Top Characters.png

That mission is to discover Telly Talk’s favourite fictional TV character of all time. To find out who that will be, we will go through a series of events. Each event will concentrate on one decade, apart from the first decade (the 50s) including any character created in that decade and before.

Each mission will last two weeks.

Once all missions have concluded, we will vote on the best characters of the 20th century and the best characters of the 21st century.
Our final mission will be to throw both centuries together and vote for the ultimate character.

If you wish to join this mission.

• Vote by listing your top 20 characters for that decade.
• Maximum of one character per show.
• 20 characters is the max, but any less than 20 is perfectly fine.
• Minimum requirement is to list your character and the TV programme they are from.
• You can include your reasons behind each character, but it is not compulsory.
• The character must be introduced on or after the 1st of January at the beginning of each decade.
• All characters are included, whether animated, computer-generated, alien, muppet, puppet, or animal.
• Any show, any genre, any country.
• Fictional characters only.

Thanks @Ome for this anticipated decade (by moi!)!

Two questions:
- In the case of the anthology series à la AHS, is one character of each season eligible, or only one of all 10 (so far)?
- Re TNT "Dallas", are the grownup versions of the original children eligible, or only new characters?

Thank you and good Sunday!

That's really an interesting thread. It's very interesting to look back and see how the TV industry has changed (streaming, many productions not available via free TV) and how my personal viewing habits changed over the decades. During summer I watch very little (read a lot) and in winter I get a streaming provider for 3-4 months to catch up.

Thanks Ome for all the calculating.

Here is my (short) list, mostly netflix somehow:
1. Frank Underwood - House of Cards
2. Bum - Dallas TNT
3. Tom Kirkman - Designated Survivor
4. Frank Delfino - How to get away with murder
5. Johnny Lawrence - Cobra Kai
6. Dustin Henderson - Stranger Things
7. Tokio - Casa de papel/money heist
8. Ellie Miller - Broadchurch
9. Dr. Watson - Sherlock
10. Princess Margret - The crown
11. Saul Goodman - Better call Saul
12. David Budd - Bodyguard
13. Martin Riggs - Lethal weapon

I would say that with AHS, we can include any character because each character is essentially a new and different character in different seasons. It’s not a continuation with each season telling a totally new story.

As for TNT DALLAS, we can’t include the grownup versions because that character isn’t new to the current decade. It’s not all bad because TNT DALLAS did create some new wonderful characters.

Oh come on Ome that is so not fair!:(
I wanted to vote for John Ross since he's my favorite character from Dallas TNT and to vote for him as a 70s character when Josh Henderson who portrayed him wasn't even born yet is just crazy!

In my opinion I think it should be okay to vote for John Ross, Christopher or Pamela Rebecca from Dallas TNT since their characters developed into totally new characters on Dallas TNT compared to when they were kids played by child actors on the original Dallas.

However I don't think it should be okay to vote for Bobby, Sue Ellen, JR etc from Dallas TNT since their characters originated in another decade by the same actor.

I voted John Ross my No 1 character in the '70s and Pamela my No 1 in the '80s.

Yeah I noticed that and I think that was a waste since they were never gonna win over popular original Dallas characters like JR or Pam.
They don't belong to those decades just because they were born then. I mean nobody knows what kind of person a baby will grow up to be when they are an adult.
So I think it's unfair. These characters would have a much better chance of making the list if they were included in the 2010s which is the decade that they belong to IMHO.

Oh I don't really mind who wins. I was just pleased to be able to put three New DALLAS characters in first place.
I mean nobody knows what kind of person a baby will grow up to be when they are an adult.
But it's fun to look back in retrospect and think "Wow, that baby turned out to be ..."

The poll is a bit of fun that we shouldn’t take too seriously. Boundaries have to be set somewhere and they are not going to please everyone.Ultimately, it’s unlikely to have a significant bearing on the outcome so it not worth spending too much time being concerned by it.
