Is an Emmy year the same as a calendar year? It would have to be that way, because Eric's death ended with a Christmas miracle, to which Bridget arrived shortly before and Ashley Jones is nominated in a guest appearance. However, Colleen Zenk is not nominated in this category, which is a real shock to me. Things got dramatic with Jordan for the first time last November. Melody Scott Thomas was also good at that time and is not nominated either.

So Neighbours is nominated - however unexpectedly good. But only one acting nomination and that for the only star of the Freevee version is strange.

Katherine Kelly Lang winning lead actress would be nice, even though the other actresses are actually stronger, but I thought something like that years ago when John McCook was nominated and he still won, so who knows?

Scott Clifton is probably nominated for Hope's breakup with Liam. As for him, I feel like I've actually seen everything he has to offer, at least on B&B. Whenever there is a separation (from Steffy or Hope) he always acts the same way, never bad, but now also uninteresting.

Similar to Katherine Kelly Lang, an Emmy would be nice for Jennifer Gareis, but the nomination is probably the real win for her. I would be happy about Allison Lanier's win because she does well as nuSummer on Y&R.

Dick Van Dyke was a delight on Days, but Linden Ashby was strong on Y&R, not necessarily stronger than Alley Mills, but since she won last year, I wouldn't mind Linden's win.

Eric Braeden and KKL will be my sentimental favorites this year, although my gut tells me Annika and Thorsten will win.

There will be many other awards given out, mostly in talk show categories and children's programming. I only cited the soap categories because....well, that's what we talk about here. I'll edit winners into this thread as they are announced.

Lauralee Bell and Eric Braeden present the Lifetime Achievement Emmys to Ed Scott (longtime Executive Producer of Y&R and later B&B) and his wife, Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki Reed Newman of Y&R). They show a long series of clips of people thanking Ed Scott in their Emmy acceptance speeches over decades, then lots of old clips of Nikki from her stripper days up to today. Their daughters and grandchildren are all in the audience to celebrate with them. A true Soap Opera Power Couple!

It was not a good night for Days, Dick van Dyke saved the show from complete disgrace.

As I prefer the old writing regime to the new, I am pleased that it did so well one last time at the Emmys.

I didn't see all the acting wins coming, but I understand what material they won for. I have to admit, even though I watch B&B, Thorsten Kaye is the only winner whose talent I don't recognize, but he must be very good, otherwise he wouldn't have won against Eric Braden who was suppossed to have his big comeback after 20 years of not being nominated.

I am pleased with the winners. General Hospital deserved best show, writing & directing. It's the best show, no contest.

Michelle Stafford absolutely deserved the win. I would have been fine if Finola Hughes had won too. But at least one of them.

Of the 5 lead actor nominations, I think Scott Clifton is the strongest. But Thorsten Kaye had good material and did good with it. In my honest opinion, I don't think Eric Braeden is a very good actor. But he can do one thing epic: the final say in a scene where he raises his voice and stares his co-worker to silence.

Courtney Hope is great, and Y&R treats her so much better than B&B did. I rooted for her or Emily O'Brien.

I would have chosen Wally Kurth over Robert Gossett in supporting actor.

When it comes to guest, I'm happy Dick won. The others don't feel like guests. Dick's role was new to him. The others have played those roles before. Ashley Jones have played Bridget since 2005 for heaven's sake. On contract and recurring. Heather Mills won last year in this category. Is being on recurring status the same as being a guest?? If so, half the GH cast can compete in the guest category. I think the guest category needs some limits.

I am glad B&B didn't win much. The way Bell wrote the ridiculous Eric dying story was 100% to score many Emmys. He knew from the start that he wouldn't kill off Eric, that a ridiculous miracle save was coming just in time for Christmas. The writing was manipulative, to score Emmys.

I remember how awful the storyline was, as it made no sence. From Eric not going to the hospital to get more tests, and not getting a second opinion and the show never ever mentioning a diagnosis - to the miracle save where Finn (who is not an oncologist), was able to Google an experimental treatment and he and Eric's own daughter (neither one of them surgeons) got to operate on Eric, which included a transplant of an unknown organ that was suddenly available, and given to an 80 year old. Not to mention that B&B didn't bother to bring in all actors playing Eric's children and grandchildren. Instead, Kristen, Felicia and Rick was off on a safari in Africa together, and could not be reached for weeks.

So many ridiculous details that it was painfully obvious that Bell just didn't care. He only cared for "strong scenes". Scenes that he and the actors would submit to the Emmy jury.

So today, I am EXTRA pleased that GH won best show, best writing & best directing. They didn't do this Emmy baiting crap. B&B only scored 1 acting win.

I'm happy for Courtney Hope. The transfer of her character from B&B to Y&R allowed her a lot more opportunities to show what a good actress she can be. It's a reverse of Kimberlin Brown's move from Y&R to B&B, which can arguably be called the most successful crossover in soaps, and a reminder that both soaps benefit from one another's existence.

I agree that they might need to "tighten up" the rules for Guest Actor/Actress, since the category has "shifted" over its existence from an award to recognize an outstanding short-term gig to something more geared to recurring players. The Younger Actor/Actress Emmys similarly experienced a shift away from teens to young adults up to 25, which basically had children competing against adults and the adults being judged differently than they would have been had they submitted in the Supporting or Lead categories. Rather than continue to receive criticism and tweaking the categories, they combined them, then just abandoned the category entirely.

I liked the remarks/jokes about how much fun the GH contingent were having. In years past the network airing the Daytime Emmys would suppress most chatter about soaps that did not air on their network. They'd also go overboard with promoting "their" soaps during the broadcasts. For the past few years though, they've loosened up a lot and seem to recognize that the show ought to be celebrating ALL soaps, not just those airing on their network. Sure, some will say the GH people were just happy because they were winning many trophies, but they seemed to be rambunctious even before the awards started pouring in. A couple of actors were about to present an award and made reference to how little it takes to get Cameron Mathison to take his shirt off...and the camera panned to Mathison jokingly unbuttoning his shirt. Maura West, seated beside him didn't look too amused, though. I'm curious, however, about that stray remark someone made in the acceptance speech about Chris Van Etten being "missing in action," as if he was expected to be there but was absent and no one knew why. Maybe he was avoiding Patrick Mulcahey. ;)
