:scream:If one more local person asks one of our politicians why the cases in NI are rising so rapidly I swear I'm going to lose it @Alexis. Likewise if I hear 'oh we can't enforce this...'. GROW A PAIR.

It's more than obvious to me why. In one breath they are saying lock down, and in the next they are saying 'if you are getting on a flight', not policing ANYONE returning to see if they are quarantining and basically not enforcing anything. Absolutely unbelievable. People are going to Dublin to fly on holiday because Ireland isn't yet on the quarantine returning list and then coming to the North, bringing infection with them. They think they are being clever and avoiding the quarantine by skipping over the border.
It's madness. My brother works for the Trust here and was sent home from work to isolate until the 15th because he worked with a girl last week who has tested positive. He asked could he just go and get tested now and was told no, he has to isolate and only get tested if he has symptoms. Surely it would be better to test him and then have him back at work if he is negative. I don't understand anyone's logic. I am glad I am tested every 14 days!
I also think everyone should get the flu vaccine if they can as soon as possible. Things are only going to get worse and people need to protect themselves and others.

well Welcome to Heil Sturgeon and our new mad lockdown regulations announced yesterday but start at 6pm tomorrow

Well done Wee Jimmy Krankie for killing of the hospitality trade in the Central belt, just as many were starting to get back on their feet and have done a lot to make their restaurants a safe place to visit

I feel so sad for them and its cruel, and many businesses wont recover . this is a disease we are going to have to live with, we cant shut up shop forever -

and id like to slap every teenager i have seen on a train in past 2 weekends, not wearing a mask and not giving a stuff either and all the students congregating in the West end and not caring a jot!

The Scottish government has toughened coronavirus restrictions further in a bid to slow the spread of the virus.

New rules have been introduced for the hospitality sector, with the tightest restrictions set to affect 3.4 million people living in the central belt.

So what are the new measures - and where do they apply?

What are the rules for pubs and restaurants?
Image copyright Reuters
All pubs and restaurants in the central belt will have to close, both indoors and outdoors, from 18:00 on Friday.

The stricter restrictions will apply in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde, Lanarkshire, Ayrshire and Arran, Lothian and Forth Valley health board areas.

Licensed premises will have to close until 25 October, although they can still serve takeaways.

Cafes which do not serve alcohol can stay open until 18:00.

Pubs, bars, restaurants and cafes in the rest of Scotland will not be allowed to serve alcohol indoors. They can only open between 06:00 and 18:00 for food and non-alcoholic drinks.

Licensed premises away from the central belt can continue to serve alcohol outdoors until the 22:00 curfew which was introduced last month.

Hotels across Scotland can serve evening meals to residents but without alcohol.

Alcohol can still be served at weddings and funerals, which are limited to a maximum of 20 people and can only take place in regulated premises.

The existing rules state that a maximum of six people from two households can meet together in hospitality venues, either indoors or outdoors.

Customers have to provide their contact details in case contact tracers need to reach them, and must wear face coverings while moving around and when not eating or drinking.

It is mandatory for staff to wear face coverings, and there can only be table service.

What else is changing in the central belt?

Snooker and pool halls, indoor bowling alleys, casinos and bingo halls in the five health board areas will have to close for two weeks from 10 October, and outdoor live events will be banned.

Contact sports and training for those aged 18 and over will be suspended for the same period, although professional sports can continue.

Gyms can remain open for individual exercise but indoor group exercise activities will not be allowed - with an exemption for under-18s.

People are being asked to avoid public transport unless it is absolutely necessary, such as for travelling to school or work.

And they are also being advised not to travel outside their own health board area if they do not need to.

What else is changing?

From this weekend onwards, shops are being asked to reintroduce two metre physical distancing rules and reintroduce some measures which had been taken earlier in the pandemic, such as one-way systems in supermarkets.

The use of face coverings will become mandatory in indoor communal settings, such as staff canteens and corridors in workplaces.

Face coverings are already compulsory in shops and on buses, trains, trams, planes and taxis.

People are also being advised not to share a vehicle with another household. Where you have no other option, the advice is to keep windows open, wear a face covering and sit as far apart as possible.

The Scottish government said it was not imposing mandatory travel restrictions at this stage, and was not insisting that people cancel their half term breaks.

However, people in other parts of the country are being asked not to visit the parts of the central belt covered by the tighter restrictions.

The Scottish government also advises against non-essential foreign travel.

Can I visit my friends and family at home?

People have been banned from visiting other households indoors since 25 September, when a restriction which already covered 1.75 million people in the west of Scotland was extended to the whole country.

There are exemptions for those who have formed extended households, to support informal childcare arrangements (such as grandparents coming round to care for grandchildren) and for couples who don't live together.

There is also an exception allowing tradespeople to enter your home to carry out work.

Children under the age of 12 are exempt from the limits on the number of people who can gather outdoors, and on the number of households.

Those aged between 12 and 17 are allowed to meet outside in groups of up to six from six different households, but should observe physical distancing.

Police have powers to break up groups of more than 15 people meeting in houses and to stop parties in student accommodation.

Over the summer it had been possible for eight people from three different households to meet indoors, and for up to 15 people from five different households to meet outdoors.

However, the limit was reduced to a maximum of six people from two households - either indoors or outdoors - from 14 September.

This rule still applies outdoors (including in private gardens) and in hospitality venues.

I think it’s also crazy that there remains free travel between all 4 ‘United’ Kingdom home nations. NI has the highest infection rate but I could get on a plane tomorrow and go to Wales, England or Scotland and not have to self isolate when I get back. Because I live in the highest infected area of the UK, I could be carrying it around but as far as I can see no one is policing it or doing anything to stop this. The person I refer to above has flown in and out of Dublin twice with no checks and came back into NI from Turkey and is flying to South America from Dublin or London soon. Doesn’t have to self isolate if flying back to ROI and will then return to NI.

Publix supermarkets (which blanket the state) elected to remove the directional arrows from the floors of the aisles two weeks ago, and people took it as a sign from heaven that things were getting better. Leave it to Publix to show us the light at the end of the tunnel.

So did Wal-Mart as well (the only requirement is to wear a mask).

The madness has spread here as well. Not only the protests but now there is a legal challenge to the lockdown. How many customers do they think they'll have if everybody's dead?

Our federal government wants free travel between states but thankfully doesn't have the last word. The states have varying restrictions regarding cross-border travel but are easing where conditions improve.

What bothers me is I work in a building with 150 people. We’re all required to wear masks naturally and you’d be surprised to see just how many people don’t. Some people wear it below their nose, which I’ll never understand. Some of them walk around the building eating all morning just to have an excuse not to wear it, and then my personal favorite is the people that wear it when the managers are around but as soon as they walk away they take it off. One guy came in with a negative test result in his hand, handed it to his boss and said look I’m negative so I don’t have to wear a mask anymore.

He might not care about other people but isn't he afraid of catching it? Or does he think being negative makes him immune?

However he puts it, to me, that is incredibly idiotic.

He pretty much walks around saying the whole thing is a hoax and he shouldn’t have to care about anyone else’s safety. Look, I respect everyone else’s opinion whether I agree or not. What you believe personally is not my business but do the right thing. Ur in a building with 150 people and I’m showing I respect ur safety so do the same for me. That’s all I ask. I think it’s a small request

Northern Ireland is doing what is termed a ‘circuit breaker’ for a month as our cases have sky rocketed.

I’m not familiar with the term circuit breaker Sarah. What does mean right now in terms of the virus?

My understanding of it is that it’s not a complete lockdown, but all our restaurants bars and non essential businesses have closed for a period of 4 weeks. You can only get food from supermarkets and takeaways - no sit in service. It was weird on Friday just seeing Belfast ‘stopping’.

Friendly advice to any of you who wants to travel to Canary Islands: Since tomorrow, our country Spain will be (again) in state of alarm nationwide.

However, bright minds (aka politicians) thought that now UK and Germany citizens can travel safely to Canary Islands, despite all that. We have over one million of infected people in Spain, and someone thinks that the ocean can stop the virus. Well, maybe it could, but the fact is that people travel from the continent to the islands via plane or ship (where the virus is easily transmitted, let´s be real).

Canary Islands, despite it´s one of the parts of the country with the least infections, it´s getting more and more too. So DON´T take a chance with your health and stay home! UK and Germany seem to be even more disoriented than our politicians! Who would have said!

Hugs to everybody! :byee:

After what was originally projected as a six-week lockdown stretched out to more than twice that, it looks like we've managed to beat back the second wave and, as of today, shops and restaurants in Melbourne are finally back open.
The greatest danger now is said to be complacency. Social distancing and mask-wearing are still in place but it's feared that people may become lax if they don't keep in mind that the virus is still out there.

Of course that didn't stop Victorians from stampeding Kmart this morning desperately trying to get their hands on a $5 towel or $29 sausage roll maker. Judging by some of the photos popping up on line it's clear the majority of people are just plain stupid.
