As we all know, Julia Smith and Tony Holland were the co-creators of EastEnders, where Tony Holland wrote specifically the 1986 Christmas Day episode with the Den/Angie divorce papers and Arthur's nervous breakdown.
Which brings me to another point, considering that Tony Jordan specifically wrote the 1994 Sharongate episode with Phil and Kathy's engagement party where Grant played Sharon's audio cassette tape confession about her affair with Phil, and The Mitchells stuff, where The Mitchells and The Watts were the 2 top dynasty families of EastEnders, I think it would be ideal for Tony Jordan to become the new Executive Producer of EastEnders.
Aside from Michael Ferguson, the 1989-1991 period of EastEnders was a period of transition, otherwise aside from Julia Smith/Tony Holland, other good producers from EastEnders first 10 years were Barbara Emile, Leonard Lewis and Mike Gibbon. With 1989, those comedy characters had they been retained, it would have brought the comedy side to EastEnders that it lacks which Coronation Street has and did begin to have more often from that period onwards, and so the first sign for me of EastEnders first ever becoming seriously depressing was in 1991 when Todd Carty's Mark Fowler was given the AIDS/HIV storyline. EastEnders took too long to bring in the suitable successor(s) in The Mitchell Brothers from Den Watts, whereas Coronation Street immediately had the suitable successor to Alan Bradley in Jim McDonald, where their arrivals/departures coincided.
Otherwise, Tony Jordan being reintroduced and promoted to the position of Executive Producer of EastEnders would be perfect, I couldn't think of a better successor in Tony Jordan to original co-creators Julia Smith/Tony Holland. TPTB had they not had a mass influx of Mitchells, they'd have had a mass influx of Watts family extensions to Den instead. The 2 dynasty families of The Mitchells and The Watts in EastEnders, it's always debateable as to who TRULY owned The Queen Vic pub, where both of them shared/ran it at times. The only one of the Mitchells I ever liked was Grant, he was equally as good as Den in the 80s. I suppose the only other concern is that The Mitchell Brothers never blended in with The Beales and The Fowlers in the same way as Den and Angie did, otherwise someone like Tony Jordan would've had a better idea how to write accordingly to get it right with blending The Mitchell Brothers in the same way as Den and Angie. From what we remember, Arthur, Pete and Kathy got along well with The Mitchell Brothers, so aside from that, there was only Michelle was got along better with Phil despite her one-night-stand with Grant where she got pregnant, Pauline was always a miserable cow anyway, although she got along well with Angie. Martin was just Martin, Mark got along ok with Grant, where Grant still supported Mark during his AIDS/HIV storyline, even Peggy apologised eventually for being ignorant about it. It was only when Grant left that Mark fell out with Phil over Lisa (Phil's girlfriend at the time as such), and finally there was Ian who got along better with Grant despite his feud with Phil, although even Grant punched Ian eventually after he found out Ian lied about his son Mark Jnr after Phil told Grant. Angie would DEFINITELY have got along with both Mitchell Brothers, she'd have flirted and had a fling with either one of them or even a marriage.
