Trying to make John Ross & Christopher be similar to JR & Bobby was a dumb idea

But it shouldn't have been that mysterious, given the WOTE's script.
I can see how they thought the idea was good on paper, at least in isolation. The real mystery is why they dropped all the storylines that were set up in the first one.

Christopher and John Ross were great friends when they were little. I liked John Ross being the bad guy and Christopher being the good guy. I'd have liked it even better when Lucas would have turned up to make life hell for Christopher, being jealous of the fact that Christopher was adoped and had lived the good life, while he (let's say that Ray made a few financial mistakes and lost lots and lots of money), as a 'true Ewing' had not. Christopher would have been the only one John Ross would never hurt, because of their longtime friendship, but he would make life hell for everybody else.

IMHO the John Ross-Christopher relationship was one of the few perfectly developed, true to origins plot of TNT´s "Dallas". They reminded us that not only JR was JR´s son, but also Sue Ellen´s, something that we here sometimes forget. Children grow up and become this or that depending on the influences and kind of education. John Ross turned out to be as much an addict as Mama (addict to power, pills and philandering, his own three P´s!).

Chris became what anyone could guess after watching the three last seasons (not too many, I know): loyal, a bit stiff and concerned about Southfork and environment. Those two clashed big time on TNT and provided the great spectacle the show needed. If those Ramoses had disappeared at the end of Season 2, maybe we´d have had a Season 4, or 5...

John Ross: "Mama, you are a drunk, a tramp and an unfit mother!"
Chris: "Egg and toast! Where´s the beech with big breasts?"

Making Dallas TNT about the grandchildren of Jock and Ellie would have been much better than the whole Ramos family taking over the show. Lucy being the eldest grandchild being someone they could go to would have been a better use of the character than what we got on the show.

Or Margaret? I would’ve thrown her in the mix as well. Could’ve complicated things for all the boys. That entire generation of the family should’ve shown up and fought over everything.

I have been trying to do that in my fanfic "Ewing Empire" and it´s literally exhausting... Everybody is so messed up and there are so many "bastards", "half-bastards", "adopted bastards" and what not...
