Twin Peaks season 3 -- episode discussion!

I am still behind, watching season 2 to refresh my memory. I might have to save the new season a couple of weeks.

So the dancing man from another place evolved into an electrictree now? :eck:
Just watched the first long episode and am ... very confused. What was that all about??? Oh well, Twin Peaks is back!

I am pretty confused, the first episode was so strange, but actually not in a good way. It felt more like late season 2 than season 1 which I was worried about. Lots of familiar faces though as expected and my favourite character is back, too (Ben Horne!). I will watch the second episode tomorrow and hopefully will enjoy this one more.
And what's up with Agent Cooper? Was that even him?

My sentiments pretty much echo what yourself and Matthew have said. The two part opener was a mish mash of so many different characters and plot threads. I know that opening episodes of new shows (or in this case, a continuation) are often overloaded with characters in order to set up the premise but this felt particularly overcrowded. And given the size of the cast, there's even more characters to come. I'm just hoping that they move the action back to Twin Peaks a bit more. It felt like it hardly featured in the opener in comparison to the scenes in South Dakota, New York and the Black Lodge. And yes, it did feel a bit more like season two rather than the exquisite season one. Which isn't a good thing.

On the plus side, it was great to see some of the old faces. The Log Lady was great and it's sad to think that it's the last we'll be seeing of her. Grace Zabriskie slipped right back into the role of Sarah Palmer too. Looking at her mannerisms and body language in her one scene, it's like she never stopped playing the role. And of course, Madchen Amick looks great as aging small town beauty Shelly.

Re: Agent Cooper. The guy with the big hair, running around killing people, is Cooper's doppelganger who escaped from the Black Lodge in the original (I think). Anyway, he's been out there in the real world all this time, while the real Cooper has been in limbo in the Black Lodge but who has now re-entered the real world via that glass box. As for that glass box, it does feel more like a season two plot. My recollections of season one was mystery with a hint of supernatural via dreams and the like. Then in season two, we'd people getting stuck in drawer knobs. It feels like season two kind of silliness.

I watched the first four episodes and I don't feel as confused as you all might be, but I am a big Lynch fan.

The one part I was confused with was is if people age in the Black Lodge?

Well, yes, DopplegangerCoop, or Bob!Coop has been in the real world for the last 25 years. As these 25 years ended however, Coop would return to his own body... and the answer to that is in episodes 3.03 and 3.04.

The first 20 minutes of the third episode were probably the worst of the whole show! WTF was that? That was beyond weird, it was downright aweful.

I had to wait four whole days before I could get myself to watch ep. 4, but my goodness, what a difference. That was an excellent episode and felt so much like the old Twin Peaks. I had goosebumps when Bobby Briggs (now a deputy sheriff!) saw Laura Palmer's picture and started to cry (accompanied by that beautiful music).

I hope we get to see more of this and much much less of the weird stuff from the first episodes.

Oh, i loved it. It was scary, creepy but still beautifully weird, surreal and crazy. Although i could not figure who that woman without eyes was, was it Ronette Pulaski? But then she got lost floating through space ... and later sitting down again with her eyes back in place?? Or was that first woman someone else? Maybe Josie Packard? But Josie is trapped in the drawer-knob!??
In both scenes Ronettes mum was pounding the door from outside. Hmm...
Of course, E4 felt more like the "old" Twin Peaks, but let's not forget that a lot of weird things happened on the old show as well at the end and the city of Twin Peaks is now in some kind of comatous "sleeping beauty" state (as i see it) since GoodCooper got trapped in the lodge.
Everything is kind of "on hold" and "waiting". Andy and Lucy are behaving even more dumb as ever before and even Hawk seems do be drugged or in some kind of snooze.
But things are changing. Slowly, but they are. EvilCoop has lost some ov his evil (as it seems) as on the other side goodCoop/Dougie evolves and slowly gets his things back together, after all got lost during his "journey through the electricity supply system" :D

It's all in motion now and the city will wake up slowly again. And when Bobby saw Lauras picture, there was finally a hint of familiar "music in the air" again after 25 years.
We're just at episode 4, and there are 18. So i guess it will take some more time, until good old Coop will be completly back, sitting there in the Great Northern with damn fine cherry pie and a damn good cup of coffee. ;)

My favourite part so far: "Heeeelllllooooooo!" at the casino
McLachlan is so brilliant as Coop!

The actress who played Ronette was the one that spoke.

Nae (actress) is the eyeless woman. They've bothered to name her "Naido", so she might have a bigger role coming up...

That was a solid episode, though not much happened. The best part was, that Don Murray (!!!) was in it. I didn't recognize him at once, but I knew the voice so I looked it up. He's almost 88 years old now and hasn't been in anything since 2001. Where has he been?
Anyway, he was great ("Cut the sh*t Dougie":D) and the episode was good, too, so I'm satisfied.
I'm still wondering though, if those cameos by the original cast members have any purpose other than nostalgia.

That was beyond mesmerizing. Diane! I thought I'd hate seeing her but I loved it, oh how I loved it.

I cried a lot when the little boy was killed. Such violence immediately preceded by the cuteness/absurdity of the RRCafe and the giggling waitress. For some reason, Cooper sitting there while his boss started putting the drawings together made me cry too. I thought he was trying to say something in his way, but then of course it appears the boss may have drawn his own conclusions.

Janey-E was hilarious scolding the thugs into lowering the money they want.

I don't even know what to say about the little person violently murdering Lorraine.

That little tidbit about Frank and Doris' son was heartbreaking. That Chad officer is everything I fear white, straight men to be.

Richard is a psycho.

I keep forgetting to mention how shocking it is to see Sid Fairgate back on my TV.

It's pretty amusing that after the initial, massive ratings drop (which was expected), each episode has gone up. Not by a lot, but I still wasn't expecting it. The ratings may not matter but I sure am glad to see that.

Probably the most straight-forward episode yet.

Nuclear experiments - entrance of BOB/Black Lodge. No way back. We've opened Pandora's Box.
Of course White Lodge had to respond to this by sending Laura Palmer to earth. In today's internet speak "Yaaaas Kweeen" and so on.
Now is the birth of Laura Palmer... or is it something else? Is the creature going up in that girls mouth the spirit of Laura Palmer (aka The Light, The Strength and Humanity) or was it just a pesky bug that she ate in the middle of the night?

Probably the worst episode yet.

It was torture. That had nothing to do with Twin Peaks, that was pure Lynch nonsense. I fast forwarded through most of it and it was still awful. No dialogue for like 20 minutes. Hopefully, that was a one time only thing.

It's truly THE tv episode of the year - in the sense that some love it or absolutely hate it with a passion.

There's no in between here.

I'm just quite disappointed that Lynch got his 18 episodes and makes amlost NO use of the beloved characters, that made Twin Peaks so great.
Most of them had just a "blink-and-miss" cameo and that was it. Why is Julee Cruise not singing at the Roadhouse? Why using other singers there that noone cares about and that have absolutely NO connection to the show?
The show was heavily promoted with the old cast with videos and magazine covers, yet almost none of that really happened so far. #fakenews
Even Sherilyn Fenn (Audrey) will have just a very tiny part, as she's been booked for just ONE SINGLE DAY to shoot according to her Twitter feed of that time.
We are 8 episodes in now and what has happened so far could be easily cut down to ONE single episode.
The show is called Twin Peaks and so far nothing of relevance did happen in Twin Peaks apart from Hawk finding 2 more pages of Lauras diary at the police station toilet. :re:
Just hope the 2nd part of that season gets better, because it's really tiring to see Lynch trying to squeeze all those time consuming references to his other projects and movies (that he obviously cares much more about) into this and using the show and it's fans for that. Last episode was 100% pure Eraserhead - but certainly not Twin Peaks.
So far we had more Mulholland Drive, Eraserhead, Blue Velvet, Lost Highway and Wild at heart than Twin Peaks.
I want to see more of the Log Lady, Audrey, Sarah Palmer, Ed & Nadine, Norma, Shelly and James. But PLEASE not as stupid scenes that Andy and Lucy or Dr. Jacoby had so far, as those were very out of character and quite useless if not completly rubbish.
And it's really about time after half of the run, that the leading character aka real Agent Cooper finally makes an entrance now that Evil Coop has (hopefully) died, as i've seen Kyle McLachlan in more than enough other roles there by now.
So far it sadly seems that Lynch is simply not able to write any good scenes for the characters that made Twin Peaks great. :confuse:

Boy, am I fed up with this whole Dougie thing. It's just too tiresome to see the same stupid scenes play over and over again. I have given up hope on seeing Agent Cooper back. And I am actually okay with it, but at least give us more evil Coop, I really can't take any more of this Dougie crap.

I liked most of what happened in Twin Peaks.
Cole, Albert and Diane are the most interesting part so far. Things are starting to make sense. But there is still plenty of stuff that seems just like filler to me. What was that girl in the car that started to vomit? I guess it was typical Lynch nonsense.

I have watched 3 episodes so far. The third episode was so confusing. I enjoyed the original 2 seasons but so far I'm not enjoying this new season hopefully it gets better.

I can understand why casual fans would find this show irritating - it's Lynch Gone Wild!

If you don't like Lynch... don't watch it is all I have to say. ABC must've reigned him in majorly, while Showtime just let him run loose.

Fun fact: in Germany the pay TV network Sky accidently already streamed #14 instead of #13 last Monday. It took them until Tuesday morning to correct that. So be aware of spoilers in the net! Bet Showtime and Lynch went apeshit. :D
