Imho 'Ultimate Answers' rounded the season up well. Chase put his cards on the table, after he discovered what really happened to his father and Angela was now having to deal with a co-owner. Of course it set the scene for many power struggles like the one below I've posted, at the end of this message.

The cliffhangers from season 2 to 7 inclusive, more than compensated for the lack of a high drama edge of seat season 1 finish.

Angela watches Chase open the winery, previously wholly owned by her. The bearded vintner and nephew of the 'grape granny' was successful in securing 50% of the lucrative wine business from her (at the end of season 1). Attorney Phillip Erickson gives his boss a reality check, (a scene from season 2, 1982 - '83):

Phillip: "Angela, there really is no point in fighting this anymore."

Angela: "Fight! I haven't even begun to fight!"

Angela Channing informs us that the story will continue and then there's the telephone introduction of Richard Channing which gives it a bit of a "trailer" vibe.
I'm not sure what more could have been done with the story we got in the first season which wasn't completely serialised to begin with.

Season 1 was the intro season... the Waltons in the Wine business. You had to get to know all the characters and also see what the dynamic was with all the characters before getting the stories going.

So I think season 1's season ender was a nice close to the first part of the feud between Angela and Chase.

The confrontation was a fine to close the season. But it wasn't enough to keep you on the edge for the next season.

I would have killed off Gus (which they did off-screen in the next episode anyhow) and set up the who-dunnit-storyline earlier.

I would have killed Carlo in the season finale, thus closing the circle of murders as starting and ending points of every season. They did kill someone at the first and last episodes of the season, didn´t they?
