I find it rather strange that these unauthorized The Colbys sets would pop up at the time the official sets were being released. And not, like, 5 or 10 years earlier when there was a (ahem) market for The Colbys bootlegs.
I could understand someone selling counterfeits of really very popular titles on the street e.g. Lord Of The Rings, but The Colbys?? All that hassle because 12 people want it?
I don't believe any of these stories.
Willie Olsen, Believe It! China, bootlegs the hell outta TV Series! and they have people selling them here in the US! Most of them come out of California! and Ebay is swamped with the trash bootlegged/counterfeit DVD's! and I am sure Amazon has been hit with a few of their own sellers! Use to the discs they made would all work fine, but anymore they could careless if they do or not! Ebay, won't stop them from selling, because in doing so, that would take money from their pockets. It's all about the Benjamin's you know! I got stuck with 3 different series, all three bootlegged! The Colby's, Justified, which was complete series and Longmire 2 seasons! The colbys, all played fine, just the picture, wasn't that great! Justifed, the same, except the first season episode one, it looked like some one had taken the original film it was taken from and taken it, put it on the pavement and drove over it. LOL! then made a DVD copy of it to sell, it was that bad! Longmire, that was a different story, some episodes didn't want play, or froze! All bootlegs they are all copied from DVD Drives! Manufactured Official DVDs are not copied, the shows/movies are pressed into the disc itself! also Official Manufacturers have great quality artwork on their case covers, and if there is a picture of someone on the disc it to is great quality! but as for the bootlegged ones, not so much! as someone mentioned above, the artwork looks like it was printed with a printer one buys from a retailer, same with disc cover, the artwork is faded, like printer is low on ink. also as someone mentioned, No legit manufacturing company. is going to ship out their product looking that bad! Because they want what is on the outside to stand out, because their name is on the box! Also as someone mentioned, disc size? A big company such as CBS, or Universal Studios or any other big company, is going to use a 9 gig DVD for a TV Series! a 4 Gig, it's not going to happen! Unless as someone else mentioned, they are only putting 1 or two episodes on that disc, which the .vob size of the show is usually between 1.7 and 2.5 gig in the older TV Series! putting more then 2 episodes on a 4 gig disc, the picture is going to look like hell! Sadly though I have seen a Big manufacturer, cramp 5 shows onto a 9 gig disc! The picture was decent on the first 4 shows, but when it came to the 5, it looked bad! I seen CBS do this, to season 2 of, The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams! Though CBS, in it's self did not do the Prints of these discs, a secondary company Timeless Media Group! which is owned by Shout Factory! came in and made them! I wish CBS had, maybe they wouldn't have been so cheap and used more discs for the Series! Season one had 4 shows per disc, the picture, looked OK! then came the horror of season two! I would have gladly paid those tightwads a few extra bucks for a better DVD Box Set! In the UK! a different company released their box set! The US complete series box set had 8 discs! The UK released their Series on 12 discs! When one has classics, you want the best, taking them from film, to stamp that show, into those discs! someone who knows the value of the show, and also knows who it is that truly butters their bread/pads their bank account, and give us the cream of the crop so to speak! Better quality DVDs! Like the UK does their people! US, companies, seam to only worry about themselves? That is why, when I buy a TV series, I
shop around! from US to UK! I am gonig to buy the one with the most discs. Just saying! Sad!
