I've Come To The Conclusion That Pam Was Crazy.

I'm watching the episode where Bobby and Ray got into a fight because the Jenna and Charlie moved in. When Bobby tells Pam about it, she got hysterical and beyond pissed. Screaming and slamming doors over Jenna living with Ray?

If you're THAT threatened over your husband's ex moving in with his brother, your marriage was never going to last. Come to think of it, both Bobby and Pam were unbearable in this particular episode.

I never understood why Bobby was that upset about Ray and Jenna. He was with Pam who had been dating Ray. Besides, he dumped Jenna. Although, could see Pam not being happy about Jenna being at Ewing dinners and parties with Bobby baby.
I also didn't get why Miss Ellie felt Jenna should have come to her first about her relationship with Ray.

The Ewing's acted VERY privileged and they wanted their cake and to eat it too.

Jenna would have been more interesting if they gave her an edge after Bobby dumped her. She should have slapped Pam when she offered to buy Jenna's baby, and she should have told Miss Ellie off for sticking her nose in Jenna and Ray's business. On top of that, call her "Ellie," not "Miss Ellie." That'll set the Ewings' teeth on edge.

I totally agree. But on Dallas, Miss Ellie and Pam were probably unslappable. Early Sue Ellen and Lucy were. Lol

That's what would make it such a life injecting scene:)

Anyone who tries to slap my Step Mother will have to go through me to do it!

Whilst I acknowledge that Pam Ewing wasn't perfect there is absolutely no need to threaten violence against her! :)

But it's OK for Sue Ellen?
I guess no one wanted to go through you!!

Hated when Pamela slapped Sue Ellen. I know Sue Ellen was a bit tipsy and having a go, but Pam could've handled it better. She actually slapped Sue Ellen to her knees! Definitely a crazy moment for perfect, not so perfect Pam.

That's why it would a, for lack of a better term, cutting-edge move for the show. The very human heroine of the show getting put in her place. I don't want to actually see Pam slapped, but something that really brought the Ewings to earth and pointed out their sometimes bad behavior would be refreshingly honest. It would also divide the Ewings, with some being horrified at Jenna's response, and some horrified at Pam's action. Think of how JR could exploit this situation and the various reactions of the other characters.

Pam also aggravated me. The way she ran out on Bob during the fight for Ewing Oil after Bob did what he did to get her a baby and stand by her when she went to the crazy house. What kind of person pulls that?
I was one of the few that always thout Jenna was better for Bobby.
I fully agree. I think Pam was a self-centered hypocrite and user.
Jenna would have been far more agreeable with Bobby and the other Ewings. She would not have interfered.
Didn't Lucy once tell Pam that she was a Ewing already by using other people?
(ie dumped Ray for Bobby)

She overly interfered with the Battle for Ewing Oil.
She could certainly express objections, but the answer is not to prod on Miss Ellie in a court battle that was unwinnable,
that would besmirch the name of Bobby's Father,
leave Bobby and go abroad, meeting up with another man no less (JR was right - 'Holding hands in the South of France.),
blame Bobby for Rebecca's fate when Bobby had nothing to do with it .Actually, Cliff was the one who was more blameworthy,
because of his 'endless losing battle with the Ewings' as Katherine said (Katherine should have been in charge of her father's company, not share it with Cliff and Pam)
She had no problem staying with Bobby and being a Ewing when Cliff was victimized (Pre season 5).
Granted Digger was a drunk, but imagine his feelings when his daughter becomes a Ewing
Family Loyalty much?
Lectures Bobby about dating Jenna AFTER she divorced Bobby and dated Mark.

Didn't Pam offer to Buy Cliff's 10%? Then in effect, Bobby would have control., not co-control of Ewing Oil
That would have been a disaster of in-family fighting.
Then in true form, Pam leaves her family because she is impaired (VANITY)

As JR once said, Pam had a knack of generating unearned income, and never generated an entrepreneurial revenue
on...anything.

There's more but... for another Day

What a fab post, you've explained it all brilliantly. I'm impressed!

And even though she played the role for just one episode Morgan Fairchild was sultry perfection as Jenna Wade. If she hadn't gotten Flamingo Road she would have been a most welcome addition to the "Dallas" cast once they made that character a regular. Francine Tacker was so blah and Priscilla although gorgeous just didn't have the bitchiness that would have made that character a true threat to Pam. Pam could eat her up and spit her out.

I don't think real-life logic always work in soap opera.
Bobby and Pam entered the TV series as the epitome of gorgeous preciousness, and exaggerated in such way that love becomes worship. Every minuscule detail that would make either spouse look a little less perfect was a potential threat, an act of betrayal.
Even if Cliff was 100% responsible and Bobby only guilty by association, the meatiest part of the drama would always play out between Pam and Bobby.
Simply because she never expected Cliff to be absolutely perfect. She never expected Jenna to be perfect. Only Bobby, and always Bobby.

I've been re-watching Dallas a bit lately and the turn they take Pam between seasons 4 and 5 is shocking - yes, being hesitant at becoming pregnant while also wanting a child was an issue before, but they turn her completely unhinged over night. Bobby mentions in the season premiere that Pam has been having mood swings out of nowhere (except we've not really seen these before) and it all goes down hill from there. I know they were setting up for Bobby and Pam to get poor dead Kristin's baby at that point, but there was absolutely not any need to turn Pam into a hysteric to achieve that!

It's just bad writing period.

although Bobby was pretty horrible to Pam only a few episodes in when he spent so much time with Jenna..

..and I agree that Jenna should have slapped Pam in season 10. Furthermore, a petulant Charlie should have hauled off and belted Miss Ellie at the Oil Barons’ Ball right there in front of the Ewings and the entire Texas oil community, inciting a party-wide brawl that made the one started by Cliff and JR a few years prior look tame.

Pamela was a much stronger character in the early days and I did really like her. In the beginning when she was set up by JR and Ray she turns on JR, "and if I were you, I'd shut up" I knew then this sweetheart had another side to her.
In love and marriage when Pam & JR have words following him "propositioning" her and she brings up Cliff and Sue Ellen, she ends up apologising to him! No need to say sorry, she should've stayed strong.

She could be so firey and stood up to many people, that whole baby business was awful. Pam just wasn't consistent or convincing a lot of the time.
