Michele said:
Don't talk about your muff.

Claudia (remembering her inner dialogue) said:
Honey, you play a valley girl on a soap opera.... I don't know how edgy you are.

Donna said:
And during all this time, how was your kidney functioning?

Even though Joan was missed (and even though I found the seven or eight minutes before Claudia entered the space a bit hard going) I think this might be my favourite yet. Claudia was a wonderful guest: open, funny truthful, a good memory for the series, a great rapport with Donna and Michele and she helped Donna keep things focussed.

Really interesting to hear The Grandmother Clause spoken about as well.

I think it might work better if they watched a few clips before each podcast to jog the ladies' memories. For example, Donna didn't remember she appeared in the fashion show at Karen's house in 'Reunion'. Also Diana talked about her reconciliation with Karen after the Chip storyline, but Michele just looked blankly at her. It's a shame because these are key scenes for fans, and we would love to hear more detail their reminiscences of these classic Knots moments. i'm sure they would remember more if they watched some of these clips prior to recording, or prepped the discussion with their guests a bit more beforehand.
Still nice to watch these though.

RE: Kim Langford. If the producers had wanted her to remain in the cast after Houghton's departure, it would certainly have been easy enough. After all, from his arrival dating Karen, Mack was very flirtatious with Ginger, so that would have created some MacKaren tension. She was a singer - competition for Cigi/Cathy - and another notch on Gary's headboard - which is so full, he's probably started on the footboard as well. She could have had a thing with Jeff after Val was disinterested in pursuing him. Just. So. Many. Possibilities. Apparently, HIS leaving was not the only reason she was let go. JS...

That's a nice idea, and it certainly has its appeal. At the same time I'm torn because it feels more authentic and immediate the way they do it. It's like meeting a group of friends one's known on and off for decades and finding that each has different memories, while some have forgotten something that is firmly lodged in the mind of others. I like that moment where one jogs the other's memory and (sometimes) there's recognition. I also enjoy that certain reminiscences just come up organically (especially from guests), and I think I might enjoy it less if there was more preparation regarding which scenes they talk about.

I was a little surprised Donna had forgotten the fashion show, because she was a driving force behind the wardrobe becoming more glamorous. Perhaps it was overshadowed by Bill Travilla's arrival (which I hope they discuss in due course). And yet she seemed to remember that line of dialogue about the kidney that she'd struggled to deliver with a straight face.

Alan Locher, a former crew member/worker for several US daytime soaps, has created a large following in his soap-leaning interview series, The Locher Room. He recorded an interview while on a speaking/lecturing tour of colleges with our very own Constance McCashin, one of several he's done with her over the last few years.

Locher kept all of these 'role of women in the 80s' and other typical woke modern day questions, while she kept basically saying that as an actress, you have to become the character and not try to interject your own personal thoughts and feelings.. or else you're not playing the character.

I wish more modern day performers would understand that in order to be good performers, you can't play yourself.

Even at the risk of stirring up controversy: I sometimes think Michele Lee's interruptions are quite annoying. Sometimes she simply cuts off her interviewees' answers with new questions or by focusing on herself, or it feels like she's pushing the answers in a certain direction, as was the case with Claudia Lonow, for example. It's very disappointing, as I value her highly. But the focus of the interviewees should be on themselves, not on Michele Lee, who always seems to have something to say about everything.

I'm all caught up. I hope Joan gets well soon. I've missed her in the past two podcasts.
It was interesting to see them have Tonya and Claudia as guests though.

I think it's pretty sad how they treated Claudia's drug use as just a phase she went through when she was young.
Someone experimenting with drugs is serious. But nobody batted an eyelash. It's like it was common place in Hollywood.
It's like whatever you have to do to stay slim is acceptable.

I think Claudia raised a valid point when she said that she looked normal when they thought she looked almost too fat. :(

I think maybe Michele Is playing at being the diva. She doesn't really seem that serious about it to me.

She's still Karen - the prototype, apparently...lol

That´s part of her charm, I wouldn´t want her any other way. One Pollyanna, always Pollyanna.

The "funniest" part of that is when they say, "at the time, everybody was doing cocaine". What do they think they do with that now, sweetener? What such a hypocrite comment!

Hmm... I don't know. Several people have said they're annoyed by it. Personally, I don't find it particularly "charming" or Pollyanna-like behavior, but rather more like a "me first" attitude. But everyone might feel differently.

Michelle and Joan both come off like a dotty elderly aunt who you are always concerned might say something embarrassing whereas Donna comes across as being more in control and on the ball. The contrast in styles makes for interesting listening.

I view Michele and Joan as being a bit Grey Garden esque with their clinging to the past and their past glories while Donna seems more present in the present.

I think Michele is very much a typical Broadway performer that is over the top and great in small doses.. but not someone you'd want to be around a lot except for maybe Christmas or New Years.

The contrasting styles do make an interesting pod-cast though.

Yes, I agree. I don't know where they'd be without Donna's ability to play the host part.

I think around episode 5 or 6 Michele Lee mentioned a storyline she refused to do which wasn’t Mack having an affair?
Any idea what that was supposed to be? Karen having an affair or..?

Also, anyone else having difficulties following this? I’m probably listening to it only when I drive to the valley through a canyon or something long and without reception like that

The mind boggling thing about Michele Lee is that she is so much different when you talk to her in a natural environment.
She’s so smart, analytical, funny. Conversation is flowing, no awkward moments, can talk for hours
