2017 Kyushu Basho.

It would have been nice if someone upset Hakuho but his skills won the day. His behavior on Day 11 was very unbecoming of a yokozuna.

Glad to see Onosho earned his kachi-koshi on Day 15. His performance the first half of this tourney was lackluster, errors of youth.

Also glad Aminishiki earned the Fighting Spirit prize and his kachi-koshi as well as Takakeicho receiving the Outstanding Performance prize.

I hope Kotoshogiku and Shohozan do better in January. I also hope Kisenosato gets healthy and finally has a good tourney.

It really will be do-or-die stuff Kisenosato in January - if he has to withdraw again that will be curtains for him.

Meanwhile the focus will now turn to see what happens to Harumafuji, though he'll most likely be told to quit.

[Trick-or-Treat Stevens]

Any news on the other yokozuna, Kakuryū? This guy has missed more time than Kisenosato.

Again, I think Kakuryu will get one final chance, if he doesn't get at least 10 or 11 wins in January, he'll be expected to retire.

Five wrestlers were promoted to the full-time salaried ranks of Juryo. Mitoryu (6-1) and Akua (5-2) will make their Juryo debuts Hatsubasho. Three others will be returning, Kizenryu, Daishoho, and Makushita yusho winner Tochihiryu.

In other news, nine wrestlers announced their retirement with the headliner obviously being Yokozuna Harumafuji. Kotohayashi from Sandanme, four Jonidan wrestlers (Suekawa, Kasuganami, Hasugeyama, Mutsumi), two Jonokuchi wrestlers (Tomiyama & Masuyama) and unranked Wakainoue also called it quits.
