2018 Aki Basho.

That was a good basho! All three yokozuna and ozeki made it to the end. Not too surprised with Hakuho winning.

I was a little disappointed that Kakuryu ran out of steam in the final days. A 10-5 record for Kisenosato is good for someone out for most of the past year. I hope he's better in November.

I'm glad Tochinoshin secured his ozeki status. His match against Abi was funny with Abi's limbs flailing after Tochinoshin got his grip. As predicted, Ichinojo secured his eighth win on Day 15 as always. I'd love to know if he has a strategy with his sumo.

I was sorry to see that Kotoshogiku didn't get eight wins. I hope he does better in November. Finally, I was impressed with Yoshikaze's 11-4 record after his horrible showing in July.

I hope Kisenosato steadily gets better, he deserves at least another couple of yusho.

With Kotoshogiku falling down the ranks, do you expect him to retire in 2019? He is one of my favourites to watch.

The Nihon Sumo Kyokai released the names of the rikishi who will be competing in the sumo's second division for the upcoming Kyushu Basho in November. Besides the comeback of the veteran Toyonoshima, there will be two new sekitori in Fukuoka.

September's Makushita yusho winner, 22-year-old Gokushindo, and double yusho winner in lower divisions Tomokaze will gain sekitori status for the last official tournament this year. The third wrestler that will be promoted to Juryo will be former sekiwake Toyonoshima, who is coming back to the salaried ranks two years after suffering a serious Achiles tendon injury.

On the other hand, the rikishi who called it quit are::

Sandanme: Tetsuyuzan, Aokishin, Dewaizumi, Kamiyutaka, Toryu
Jonidan: Nishiyama, Orora, Takanonari, Maeta, Kiminofuji
Jonokuchi: Satoiazuma, Koreyasu
Banzuke-gai: Kozakura, Iwamori, Kitasatsuma, Asahisato
